Origin:

The Eurasier is a modern Spitz breed developed about 50 years ago by Julius Wipfel in Germany, who set out to create an attractive, medium-sized dog with beautiful colours and a mellow character. He crossed Chow Chow males with large German Wolfspitz (Keeshond-type) females. Later, he crossed healthy females of these breedings with a male Samoyed. Good selection of stock since that time established the breed now known as the Eurasier.

Temperament:

The Eurasier is self-assured, calm and even-tempered. Quick to learn and eager to please, the Eurasier tends to bond very strongly with its owner and/or family. The breed does not like to be away from those it loves and is reserved towards strangers without being aggressive. The Eurasier needs constant, close domestic contact with his family and understanding yet consistent training.

Activity Level:

An engaging and athletic breed, the Eurasier is capable of participating in many different activities with its owner. Eurasiers need daily outdoor exercise. Indoors, they tend to be calm and quiet.

Height/Weight:

This handsome dog may measure from 18-23.5 in (48-60 cm) and weigh from 39.5-69.5 lbs (18-31.5 kg). Ideals for the breed are in the medium ranges of both height and weight.

Coat:

The medium-length double coat is soft, straight, abundant and luxurious.

Colour:

Colours range through cream, red, fawn, wolf grey, sable, black-and-tan, and black. Thanks to its Chow ancestry, some Eurasiers have a blue-black tongue, while others are solid pink of have a variety of markings. Eyes are dark brown.

Grooming:

The medium double-coat requires regular brushing, especially during seasonal shedding times.
