Origin:
Although the Rex is reputed to have been in existence in Europe and the U.S. after WW II, it was believed to be a genetic mutation ,due to its unusual coat, and was not taken seriously as a distinct breed until 1950 in Cornwall, England, when a wavy-coated kitten from a litter of farm cats was bred back to its mother and found to breed true. Then another appeared in Devon in 1966 but proved to be genetically different from the Cornish and was recognized, along with the Cornish, in Britain in 1967.
Temperament:
Full of fun, the active Devon is definitely a people cat. Many retrieve their toys endlessly. The Devon wags its tail when happy and has a delightful, pixy-like personality. It is sometimes called the 'poodle cat.'
Height/Weight:
Devon Rex ears are large and seem oversized in relation to the unique 'pixie-elf' head shape. The breed is slender-bodied and fine-boned.
Colour:
The short, wavy coat is velvety and warm to the touch and best of all, it doesn't shed. All colours and patterns are acceptable.
