The kitchen before

The kitchen before

A more detailed look at the magnificent re-imaging of a French Chateau style home. The conversion of the dated kitchen into an efficient workspace, makes it truly a functional heart-of-the-home for active an family.

The central skylights add natural light, while wide-plank, hand-scraped white oak flooring balances the strong vertical lines of millwork and structural columns. Removal of interior walls accommodated the new, open layout, which necessitated extensive structural upgrades and addition of long-span beams.

There is booth seating closest to the actual workspace with a marble tabletop and small scale chandelier to create continuity with main cooking area and back-lit upper display cabinets enhance dramatic European styling.

Top of the line cooking components make work as fun as any play in the kitchen; it’s a workspace befitting of any culinary enthusiast and a big, bright room in which to entertain.

The dated kitchen would be converted into the central hub for family interaction.

The builder: BDR Artisan Construction Inc.

Budget: Part of $400k+ total home renovation.

The old kitchen was both dated and such a large amount of room was both inefficiently laid out and under utilized. There was almost too much distance from one station to the next.

The incandescent hub encompasses the best of form and function. Beautiful and hardy materials, a great layout for both working and entertaining, it’s certainly a stunner. Staggered pendants over the central workstation (with filtered water and soap dispensers) add supplemental lighting and visual rhythm.

Out of date and out of mind

Out of date and out of mind

The out of date setting just wasn’t inviting enough to be the hub of the house. Reconfiguring the kitchen layout would improve it’s functionality; making it an apt time to bring surfaces and appliances up to date.
