Master bathroom

Master bathroom

About this design: Bringing serenity or style to one of the most important room’s in the home is no small task. TO Design CO not only rejuvenated, but brought the master and main baths of this near-century old Edwardian house up a level of comfort, functionality, and decor that was worthy of its architecture; all the while in keeping with the lifestyle of the owners.

It took 3 months to finish the renovation — a complete gut and redo of the two main bathrooms in the house.

The builder: TO Design Co

wierd how people go and buy crap to decorate their homes. I should do that too (burp) too boring though but I love the pictures even though I would rather buy a mercedes and boast about it. I dont really care about my bathroom. It s too boring to go and spend money that u could be spending on something more usefull but buying crap with it. I love cats/kittys.

Although recently renovated, the builder’s plain white walls and trims, and 12 X 12 standard marble tiled flooring, 2 piece standard toilet were humdrum. Lighting, too was insufficient, provided only by regular incandescent bulbs in the ceiling. All the electrical, plumbing, fixtures, cabinetry, floors, chrome and brass taps and accessories, light fixtures, trims, doors and windows would be removed. Adieu, also, to the the obtrusive bulk head above the vanity.

Removing the bulkhead brought up the ceiling. High quality recessed lights for both wet and dry areas bring much needed brightness. Two candle sconces on each side of a black framed beaded beveled mirror above the vanity as well as the double sconce (Gingers Bath) high-light the serene backdrop of tranquil colours (Ocean Air 2113-50 by Benjamin Moore and White Heron OC-57, Village Paint & Wallpaper). The clever designer towel radiator works as both towel and space heater (Runtal Wall heater: Roman Bath NuHeat ). The elongated sanagloss one piece toilet (Toto Toilet: Taps Bath) complements both the modern and traditional aspects of the decor.

The existing soaker tub was part of a standard shower, accompanied by a nondescript curtain rod, plastic curtains, which all disappeared in to the plain white ceramic wall tiles.

The custom shower system (London rain shower head, Taps Bath and Grohe handheld shower) and tempered shower glass doors (Shower Door of Canada) are completed with elegant surfaces: Spanish porcelain wall tiles (Saltillo Tiles), backsplash border of white Carrara marble mosaic (CIOT) and shower border of black Nero Marquina marble (Cercan Tile). Octagon Carrara marble mosaic tiles at wet and dry areas seamlessly merge.

Out with the cold

Out with the cold

The worn night stand, by the old drafty vinyl window, was used for extra storage. What inadequate heat there was, provided by the one scant floor vent, was escaping via air leaks.

Warm with the new

A heated floor system (CIOT) and new wood windows with built-in pleated blinds and new casings (Pella) now provide the perfect heating solution for the space. Atmospheric warmth is provided by a double horizontal wall sconce above the make-up stand (Eureka Recessed lights: Union Lighting), also custom built, with Calacatta countertop and designer mirrored medicine cabinet atop (Gingers Bath). New wood tri-paneled door, door trims, and baseboards (Fairbank Lumber) are finishing touches.

The new washroom is completely transformed. A higher ceiling was created through the removal of the bulkhead and recessed (Eureka Recessed lights: Union Lighting) lights for wet and dry areas, brighten. So too, do the two Roderick double sconces (Gingers Bath) placed side by side on a custom beveled mirror box. The custom built-in high gloss sink cabinet with single rectangular sink (Kohler), flanked by small washer and dryer appliances (Bosch, Caplans) are fabulous and functional. Bath linen wall and floor custom high gloss cabinets with Dark Emperadore marble countertop (Caledonia Marble) are eye-catchingly attractive.
