  • What to do for friend on anniversary of her father's death?

    Friends - 5 hours ago

    Additional Details

My best friend's father was murdered three years ago, and the anniversary of his death is coming up in the middle of November and I was trying to come up with some ideas as to what I could do for her and her family. I'm very close with them, but it's hard to think of something, given the situation. Does anyone have any ideas about what I could do? Thank you! WHOA. Some people are taking a nice gesture as something mean. There's a nice way to explain how you feel, making someone feel as if they're doing something bad, when only trying to help, isn't it. I in no way shape or form meant as a way to "celebrate" I simply only wanted ideas as to what I could do for her that day to get her mind off of it.

whenever my boyfriend and i see each other, we have sex multiple times. if i tell him that i don't want to, he respects that, but it always seems like i'm the one asking for it. i don't know how to not want it so badly. whenever we're together, we're almost always alone at my house or at a hotel, so it's really hard not to, and i always end up doing it anyway. afterwards, i don't have any regrets, but i just wish i didn't give in that easily. does anyone have any advice?

so my best guy friend who likes me alot and i like him back, but i wouldnt wanna date him cuz hes a player, and im kinda like the type that is waiting for a good guy whos trustworthy, and im 15, and havent a had a boyfriend yet cuz im picky and think i deserve better than alot of the guys tht go to my school, and he knows this. and his friends always tell me tht even tho he dates all the hoes, he likes me alot more and respects me more. but i know he doesnt want to date me for tht exact reason, cuz i respect myself too much (so he wont get sex from me is what im saying..) and so this weekend, he texted me after we were kinda fighting about how hes dating all these slutty girls and then lieing to me abnout not having a girlfriend when he does just so i'll go to the movies with him.and he texted: "i want u to know this, i do like u, i like u alot" and i was freaking out cuz he finally admitted to me that he liked me alot to my face, while he has a girlfreidn!!!!! wtf!!!! so what do u think is the reason he likes me so much but wont go out with me?! and do u think hes just keeping me aorund for rebound? and also we always give really close hugs, but recently hes been giving me these hugs where he like puts his arms really close aorund my lower waist by my butt (which he said was big last year and i got mad at him for saying tht lol, so understandable why he'd want to hug me near there). and normally, since hes tall with wide shoulders and a small waist and hips, and im short, i normally wrap my arms around hiss waist and his arms go around me when we hug. what do u think that means? he has a girlfriend, why cant he get those kind of hugs from her?!
  • Should I make my Mother suffer?

    Family - 6 hours ago

    Additional Details

I hate my Mother. She's not abusive or anything, but she doesn't understand me neither the rest of my family. I want to get revenge. I want to make her suffer because she wouldn't let me and my brother order food as there's nothing much left in the fridge. She thinks there's more food for us in the fridge, but we both don't agree with her. Another thing is she doesn't think I'm grown up enough to go to the doctor even though I'm trying so hard. I hate her so much. I will make her suffer by hurting myself. I hate her! I hate her! I hate her! How could I say that? Now I'm such a terrible person. It's just that I wish she appreciate me even more instead of saying that my drawing is okay. Then she is looking down on me. What should I do to make her even more happier?

  • I just came up with another question! Who should I talk to about this?

    Family - 6 hours ago

    Additional Details

I have a situation (That is explained here- http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AuA07LpmAMQOBK5CW8QxuAjsy6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20091107140823AAefcGP ) in which I would like to talk to someone about. If you read it you'll know I obviously can't talk to my mom about. My dad and my grandma are just out of the question as well. So who would you guys think to be a good person to talk about this between the following: My sister who knows (younger sister) My older and much more reasonable sister (She doesn't know and I am afraid if I tell her mom might figure out I told her and that would not be pretty) My youth minister (I am a bit unsure about him because I don't know if this information should only be circulated in the family) Or should I only rely on people I don't know online like I am now? I would really love to talk to someone who won't leak the info that I told them back to my mom and who would be understanding and willing to talk to me about this, because this really hits me hard. This is like one of the biggest things I have ever learned of in my life. When I say younger sister I mean younger of my two older sisters

The hummingbird and butterfly garden

POST A COMMENT »

Four years ago I moved into my 'dream' garden.

My wife Mary and I decided that we wanted to move to the country and it seemed obvious where that should be as a portion of her family farm was available to us at the time. One warm summer night, very early on in the negotiation, I made the remark that I would like to move there providing that I could have my 'dream garden'.
She said, "It's a field of soybeans, so go nuts."
And off I went.

I walked in to the property from the road until it just felt 'right' and there I drove a broken hockey stick into the ground. This was the demarcation of my new Canadian garden.

I didn't realise it at the time, but I had carved off 10 acres of 'soybeans' with the intention of converting it into a hummingbird and butterfly haven.

Hummingbird (Mark Cullen)Here is what I have learned about attracting butterflies and hummingbirds:

1. You can attract butterflies and hummingbirds (and song birds too!) largely by your choice of plant material.
2. Your choice of plants should include lots of native species, if you want to maximize the value of them as 'magnets' to butterflies and hummingbirds.
3. Look for bright-coloured perennials and annuals with 'trumpet' shaped flowers for the hummers and flat, bold faced flowers for the butterflies that they easily perch on (specifics to come...).
4. Plant lots of trees for nesting and protection (for the birds, hummers included).
5. Place lots of still water around your yard for drinking (bird baths work as well as anything - just empty them weekly to avoid mosquito breeding).
6. This garden performs best in sun to partial sun (so don't over plant the trees).
7. It is beneficial to have a hummingbird feeder set up near your kitchen window so that you can see them for yourself, without always having to take a tour of the garden to find the little rascals. Besides, the hummers may just announce their arrival to your place with a visit to your feeder first. You best be there to greet them!

Where do you go from here?

Some details:

1. Make a plan of your butterfly and hummingbird garden now, and be sure to include many of the plants that are known to attract them.

2. Native plants that work: Echinacea purpurea (purple coneflower), rudebeckia hirta (black eyed susan), yarrow (great for hot dry places), perennial salvia and liatrus (shooting star).

3. Bright, trumpet-shaped flowers: trumpet vine, honeysuckle (both the hardy shrub and the vine), salvia, foxglove, lupines, jasmine (tropical, but you can bring it indoors for the winter), hibiscus (the tropical varieties, the hardy perennial and the 'rose of sharon' woody shrub) - they all work nicely, lavatera (annual), rose mallow (annual), hollyhock (biennial), delphinium, all hostas, daylilies, fuchsia (annual) and nicotine (annual - and one of the best!).
The 'flat flowering' plants that provide a nectar rich platform from which butterflies will feed and 'spread their wings' include Shasta daisy, Queen Anne's Lace, rudebeckia, asters (perennial and annual) and many others.

For the complete list go to www.markcullen.com

4. Plant a mixture of deciduous and evergreen trees as both provide protection, food sources and other varied benefits.
5. I have several bird baths in my front and back garden that get a lot of use - some are more ornamental than practical: all used by birds and butterflies more for drinking than bathing. Remember to dump still water weekly to prevent the mosquitoes from breeding...

6. Bright sunshine is favoured by most butterflies and hummingbirds in fine weather, but trees provide protection from wind and severe weather.
7. I received an e mail from the executive Director of Hummingbird Canada to say that hummingbirds actually arrive in many parts of Central Canada in mid April, contrary to popular belief. Keep this in mind next spring and get your feeder out early. Go to www.wildbirds.com/dnn/Favorites/Hummingbirds

Be sure to clean out your feeder every week or so to prevent mold from building up inside of it.

And keep in mind that hummingbirds are migratory. They pass through our gardens in urban and suburban areas once in spring and again in late summer/early fall. I find that it is easier to get them to stick around during their southern migration late in the season.

So - be ready. The most desirable wildlife is about to arrive at the party. And with it, our reputation for being quiet, modest Canadian people that everyone seems to think that we are, is about to fly out the window.

Keep your knees dirty,

Mark
