Fall is the perfect season to dream in colour and this fall, colour starts to spin a little out of control as we gear up for the most exciting colour trends the fashion industry has seen in a long, long time.
When chatting about colour trends, I never talk just one season. it's more the direction that we will follow for the next three years. With fall in full swing, it's time to think about swinging the paint brush with rich warm hues that will add an entirely new dimension to your home.
I'm blessed with an abundance of travel and air miles, thanks to my international design projects and my television show, Lets Shop. Travelling the globe gives me a truly global perspective on the colour wheel. And what a colourful vision it is.

Never colourblind, I put the entire colour wheel under review as I contemplate new palettes for my spaces. If you're thinking green, think cool — yes, green cools off in the colour landscape. Especially big will be the cool olives, but you will also see yellow green — lime paired with cool greens is right on trend. Dipping to the yellow side, edgy yellows are irridescent. Think light lemon — you see a lot of this colour in UK fashion with the 60's revival.
Blue is always on trend (did you know that it is North America's favourite colour?), especially clean, watery blues paired with metallics. And not just silver, oh no, we love blue with bronze and gold. If you're a September baby you'll be pleased to hear that your birthstone, sapphire, is also a fabulous, fashionable hue especially when you pair it with black or camel and bronzy brown. FYI: black paired with any bright is hot! Consider black walls with a pair of lime green chairs set in front of it — oh la la.
Following blue around the colour wheel leads us to shades of purple. Sultry purple pales and midtones are fashion forward thoughts for chic rooms. Personally, I prefer the richer antioxidant shades of the berry purples. This is the colour I am currently painting my daughter's bedroom and ensuite.
Black and white will be less graphic and more sophisticated in the coming years. Neutral, muted whites, such as almond bisque, are the new neutrals. In the metal family look for brown/bronzes and bronzes brushed with rust or green. Perhaps you could paint the powder room walls a patina bronze — fabulous!
