I spent the other day watching what may well be the future of the home building industry?and it was a very interesting day to say the least. I was honored to have been invited to watch British Columbia's Nuestar Homes assemble their first off-site built show home. Although the idea of 'off-site built' may be new to some, I reckon that many of us could be considering this option in the future.
The Nuestar show home is a gorgeous two-storey model (a feature that sets this manufacturer apart from other home builders) with an attractive sloped roof, fabulous round and arched windows, and nine foot ceilings. Built in a controlled environment, each home is constructed to the highest of building standards. So what's the best part? Each home is delivered in less than three months. Can you imagine getting a new, custom-built home delivered in approximately 90 days? In less than three months, you could be living in a new home. That's amazing?especially considering most custom homes take roughly one year to build.
With continuing labour shortages, finding quality tradespeople and getting them to your job site in a timely manner is one of the biggest challenges facing general contractors and home builders today (not to mention the delays caused by adverse Canadian weather). With off-site construction, homes are built to your exact architectural specifications and are factory constructed, which means that you get a solidly built home which is environmentally friendly (you have a lot less waste when a home is built in a controlled environment), and there are no mould or water issues. In addition, there are virtually no limitations on design from the simplest of structures to the most elaborate of designs.
Finally, a home built in a climate-controlled environment results in significant cost savings to the purchaser. What's not to love?
