Have you seen the Sex and the City movie yet? I went for the closets and fashions, and thoroughly enjoyed myself.
Like most girls, I love fashion and will admit that one of the most important elements of a home is the closet. In fact in the home we're building, my husband Roger and I have spent months planning just that particular space.
If you have already seen the movie, then you will understand that great closet design is about the lighting. Yes, lighting! Even if your closet space consists of a six-foot rectangle with doors, start your closet makeover project by adding as much new lighting as you can get. Try adding a lighting track with multiple heads to brighten the space. Remember, though, to properly illuminate so that you can see the true colour of your clothes, shoes and accessories. Use incandescent or low-voltage halogen lighting to avoid any clothing coordination mishaps. If you are building a new home, consider a dormer window, sky light or solar tube to bring both natural to light up your closet.
Every inch counts. A good closet designer is worth his or her weight in gold (or Manolo Blahniks!), so plan for what you have and prepare to take your shelving to the top. If you have a weakness for shoes, create a larger shoe area. If you are all about accessories, plan more accessory storage. Consider 'sexing' up your closet with fabulous wallpaper, run a border above the baseboard or add designer knobs to the entry doors. Getting dressed to kill is more fun when you love the space that keeps all those gorgeous clothes, footwear and accessories.
Finally if you've haven't seen Sex and the City yet, go and check out that spectacular closet!
