    Additional Details

okay, I am having problems with this stupid fan, I am sure I have the wires connected right, the green is connected to the bare, the white to the white, black to black and red to blue. But when I turn on the switch, the fan doesnt turn on. Its not the breaker, it has power.. what should I do? yes i tried the chains, but it still doesnt work. I just tried rewiring it, (ceiling first) white to white, black to blue, red to black, and bare to green, and the second switch worked with the fan, but the light still doesnt work. i have 2 switches and no idea what you mean by hots the fan has a blue, green, white, and black wire. the ceiling has white, black, bare and red. I have no idea what to hook up and what not, and I moved this from one room to another, so I dont have a manual. okay randy so to attach the fan to one switch attach them both to the black one? well i tried attaching both the blue and black from the fan to both the black and the red from the ceiling. if they are attached to the black, nothing works. If they are attached to the red, the light works, but the fan still doesnt okay i have the light turning on, but the fan isnt working, i think you are right and that there is a problem with the switch wiring. Is it difficult to fix this?

The plumber changed the wax ring and I just noticed from the old caulk stain that the toilet was not put back onto the exact same spot. It's placed about 1 cm. behind the old spot. Will this cause any leakage or problems, or is this ok? Thanks for helping!

  • Help with recessed lighting?

    Maintenance & Repairs - 18 hours ago

    Additional Details

So I have 18' ceilings with four recessed lights. I wanted to replace the 65w incandescent indoor floodlights with 90w indoor halogen floodlights. I used a long extending pole made for replacing the light bulbs, but when i tried to slide it off of the halogen, instead of slipping off the bulb, it took the whole recessed fixture out. I shoved the fixture back in (mostly) and walked up to the second floor landing where I used a broom to hold the recessed fixture up while my wife took the pole off the bulb. However, that won't work for the other fixtures that are out of reach from the 2nd floor landing. So, should i give up, or is there a better way to do this? It seems the problem is the shape of the halogens - they aren't smoothly curved around the bulb, they are more conical with a slight lip around the crown. Also, how do i get the recessed fixture back in properly? Do i need a huge ladder?
  • Is it possible to have a shared water tank and separate water heaters?

I live in a duplex, where we share a water bill because there is only one tank. We each get separate gas and electric bills though. How is the energy to heat our water separated? Is it possible that one apartment is paying for the heated water of the other unknowingly? Thanks for all the help!

Home ownership more affordable for the fifth straight quarter, says RBC

By THE CANADIAN PRESS

TORONTO - RBC Economics says home ownership in Canada became more affordable for the fifth straight quarter.

Senior RBC economist Robert Hogue says in a statement that home affordability level has now been restored to pre-housing boom levels. But Hogue adds the "recuperative phase of the affordability cycle seems to be drawing to a close."

He says housing prices are firming up in many parts of the country and mortgage rates no longer trending downward.

The RBC index examines the proportion of pre-tax household income needed to service the costs of owning a home.

During the second quarter, the index fell to 39.1 per cent for a detached bungalow, 31.5 per cent for a standard townhouse, 26.9 per cent for a standard condo and 44.4 per cent for a standard two-storey home.

Hogue says the levelling off of home affordability is "not expected to stop the impressive resurgence in the housing market."

"Supply of properties for sale is dropping as demand bounces back, which is working to heat up prices again in many parts of the country."
