  • problems hooking up overhead fan?

okay, I am having problems with this stupid fan, I am sure I have the wires connected right, the green is connected to the bare, the white to the white, black to black and red to blue. But when I turn on the switch, the fan doesnt turn on. Its not the breaker, it has power.. what should I do? yes i tried the chains, but it still doesnt work. I just tried rewiring it, (ceiling first) white to white, black to blue, red to black, and bare to green, and the second switch worked with the fan, but the light still doesnt work. i have 2 switches and no idea what you mean by hots the fan has a blue, green, white, and black wire. the ceiling has white, black, bare and red. I have no idea what to hook up and what not, and I moved this from one room to another, so I dont have a manual. okay randy so to attach the fan to one switch attach them both to the black one? well i tried attaching both the blue and black from the fan to both the black and the red from the ceiling. if they are attached to the black, nothing works. If they are attached to the red, the light works, but the fan still doesnt okay i have the light turning on, but the fan isnt working, i think you are right and that there is a problem with the switch wiring. Is it difficult to fix this?

Common Cleaning Mistakes

What not to do when tidying up this spring ...

By Martha Li
Common Cleaning Mistakes
Spring has arrived, and it’s time to get your house in order for the beautiful weather in the coming months. If you’re doing an annual spring cleaning job at home, here are six common mistakes to avoid to ensure you’re optimizing your cleaning time and efforts—and also keeping safe in the process.

1. Poor prioritization of cleaning tasks. Increase your cleaning efficiency by figuring out, and sticking to, the strategy that works best for your home. Take a few moments to examine your processes and you’re bound to save yourself loads of time.

2. Using the wrong cleaning supplies and tools.
It’s ineffective to clean your counters with a glass and mirror cleaner, or dust shelves with a paper towel. Make sure to assemble the proper supplies so you do an easy and efficient cleaning job with optimal results.

3. Improper cleaning methods. Let’s say you’re using a wet mop to clean your floors. Are you making sure it’s completely wrung out each time you’ve wiped the floor? Do you change the water in the bucket after every two or three dips with the mop? If you’ve answered “no” to these questions, then you might as well not mop the floor at all. Dirty water and a mop that’s not properly wrung out result in soil transfer, thus rendering it pointless to clean your floors. Pay attention to your cleaning techniques so your efforts are not in vain.

4. Forgetting to clean non-visible areas. We all try to cut corners when we clean, but if this is your major seasonal cleanup, don’t skimp on the duties! For example, remember to take care of tasks such as cleaning under the lip of the toilet bowl as well as behind it, dusting high-to-reach areas, cleaning the garbage bins themselves, and dusting or wiping down all the non-visible areas in every room of the house.

5. Unsafe storage of cleaning products. Never store household cleaners next to food. Why? Because these products contain potent and harmful chemicals which, particularly when opened, can permeate into the surrounding air. Store cleaning products in a locked cabinet away from common living areas or choose non-toxic products that work just as well, but are safer. When using the products, protect yourself by always wearing gloves and ensure there is proper ventilation at all times.

6. Incorrect disposal of cleaners. Household cleaners with caustic chemicals should not be poured down the drain. Not only is it hard on your pipes, this disposal method may potentially release toxic fumes into the air and also pollute the local water supply. Contact your municipal government to find out the appropriate facility in your area for disposing of hazardous waste such as toxic cleaning products.

Change the water after every two to three dips of the mop? Does everyone do this? or have I (and everyone I know) been living on another planet up to now?

bleach, diluted will not harm a cat, anything past the minor minor smalller amts will be okay, if introduced to diluted, severely diluted bleach at 6 weeks the cat will love it and love to lick your hands, bleach kills germs, half a cap full of the bleach bottle added to dish liquid sterilizes dishes, the dish rag and the dish brush and the sink..not to mention the dishes, the worst mistake is dirty dishwater at a medium temperature and in goes the dirty dishes and they come out full of germs, rinse dishes in the hottest water unless they are washed in water so hot u need a fork to get the ear of a cup or use the fork to lift dishes up to your reach so you can handle it, i went thru He*ll as a kid having to use the hottest water and it was not fun, but i did learn the principles of doing dishes properly, i still use the bleach thing, altho i have a dishwasher some things need the soapy water and dishrags that collect tons of germs, then air dry the dishes to be safe, now isnt this boring? to write a comment on here about doing dishes, cleaning? yup... but most ppl dont know how to clean and spend too much time cleaning where it can be done in a lesser amt of time, i am disapointed in the "quality" of this article it lacks common sense and substance, the headline is great the rest is full of ga- ga, have a good day all....

Ha, the biggest mistake I've seen is putting too much cleaner mixed with not enough water on a cleaning cloth and wiping it around. Dirt won't dissolve, and lots of rinsing will be needed to get rid of the sticky residue that results. MANY roommates and people new to living alone make this mistake - more soap doesn't always help if there's not enough water.

This is so dumb that they recycle articles; the first line says, Spring has arrived! Not in this hemisphere, it's almost Fall. No credibility equals why do I bother reading?

I find these articles are helpful for my kids (ages 12 &13). I print them off and post them on the fridge. I love the sound of them moaning and responding.. "so mom was right after all" As for all those ppl who like to critisize.. there is an old saying... those who can.. Do, those who can't ... critisize.. you complain about an article but you do nothing but sit on your "brains" and pick apart others who are getting piad to write articles... too pathetic!

This is a ridiculous article - typical of mainstream news. Numbers 5 and 6 make mention of the toxicity of most conventional cleaning products. Yet, not one of the recommendations include NOT cleaning with toxic chemicals which are strongly linked to cancers and other illnesses.Things like vinegar, baking soda, and lemon are safer and just as effective alternatives.

Fun.notnuts you are so correct. People with pets have to be consider them in the equation. My Rex also died of liver failure, with nothing wrong detected from the biopsy like cancer. It was just full of toxin. Their pads are very porous and can absorb many things we use on our floors. I was a fan of Swiffers and now I have read many controversial things on it. Good old hot water and vinegar is fine. Also room deodorizer. Very controversial. They are not good for us and our pets. I only use non-chemical stuff for all my household cleaners. I supply everything for my cleaning lady.

I have a jack russell terrior and I just want to say, think of your pets when you clean because they are very affected. One of my jacks died of cancer and I often wonder if it was due to using bleach with water to clean up the floor in the area the dogs played.
