Soil - Additive

Q and A

By Groundskeeper

Question: Thursday, July 11, 2002

What is the best thing to add to my garden soil to promote strong, green foliage on my perrenials and annuals? I spend a lot of time on my garden and year after year I have the same problem...light green, weak foliage. Can I add something now or should I wait until fall or spring? Signed, discouraged!!

Answer:

Compost and composted manure are excellent items to amend your soil. You can use these in the spring when planting, as a mulch to conserve moisture in the summer and as an insulating mulch in the winter. This will break down over time and add goodness to the soil.
