Question: Monday, April 22, 2002
I have located information about moving shrubs (deciduous and evergreen). It says to transplant in spring or fall. Can I move both types early spring (end April - beginning May). I'm really more concerned with the flowing shrubs. Is it okay to move them before the leaves arrive or should I wait until the foliage has started?
Also, my sister was asking me about repelling cats from her bark mulch. They are using it to sleep and as a litter box in another area. Do you have any suggestions?
Answer:
1. Rule of thumb - prune spring blooming shrubs in the fall and late bloming shrubs in the spring. However, this rule should not be cast in stone. The reasoning is that if you move before blooming you can set back, or even forego, bloom for that year.
2. Here's a home-found receipt -
CAT REPELLENT SPRAY
2 part cayenne
3 parts dry mustard
5 parts flour
1 litre water
Mix and spray on garden where cats have been leaving their business. You could also try Critter Ridder/
