Question: Wednesday, June 27, 2001
My dad has a garden plot in a public garden in Milton Ontario. I was there tonight to help him stake tomatoe plants. There are some bugs eating all of the Spanish onions, the radishes, and the carrots. It looks like some kind of little white grub. Part of the agreement with the region of Halton, is not to use any kind of chemical fertilizers or insect sprays at all. This being the case, what can we use to get rid of these grubs? if I put cedar mulch between the rows, will this help?
Answer:
Planting marigolds will ward off some bugs (and add colour to your plot) and so will some companion planting such as carrots and onions . You could also try a natural product by Green Earth called Aim Flower and Vegetable Spray.
