Perennials - Acanthus

Acanthus (Bear's Breeches)

By Groundskeeper

What is a Enkianthus and where would I plant it.

Answer:

Hello Frances:

Acanthus, commonly known as 'Bear Breeches' is a bold specimen plant and very popular with landscape designers. In a well-protected area, this will form clumps of large glossy , deeply-lobed leaves, above which are displayed spikes carrying handsome mauve-pink flowers. This is a Zone 7-9 plant, that might survive in Zone 6 with considerable winter mulching. Plant in sun/shade as a specimen or border plant..
