Annuals - Lisianthus

Lisianthus Russellianus

By Groundskeeper

Question: Thursday, May 03, 2001

I bought what I was told was a lizzianthus at a plant sale for the Oakville Horticultural Society. It is not in your book, or any of the other books I have, and I was wondering what you can tell me about it. IE height it will get, is it winter hardy, and anything else you might know. Right now it has pink flowers and is about 16'' tall. I have put it in a sunny part of the garden for now, but have left it in its pot until I can find out where it might go best. Anything you can tell me is appreciated.

Answer:

Lisianthus is a slow-growing annual that enjoys a full sun/part shade location where it will grow to between 6-12". It is available in pink, white, blue and bi-colours. Pinch out the tips to promote bushiness. This is an excellent cut flower.
