Bulbs - Dahlia Tubers

Planting

By Groundskeeper

Question: Monday, April 16, 2001

I planted my Dahlia tubers (which are the 3rd year that I have used them) in late February and they all came up, however, now I seem to be experiencing problems with the leaves, they seem to be turning brown at the edges and are drying out. I keep track of the moisture content of the plants and I am not spraying the leaves. Due to lack of space they are in every window that I have, being westerly, easterly, northerly and southerly exposures. Do my plants have a disease (this did not happen last year) and what can I do about it. Also, I bought some fancy Dahlias which I have never used before, one being a Babylon Red. They have grown very tall, is this suppose to happen?

Thanking you in advance for your advice.

Answer:

I think you planted them a little early and they really need to go outside in a greenhouse or coldframe until we have frost-free nights.
