Stevia plants

Re Stevia - Could you tell me how to use stevia as a sugar substitute in baking etc. Thank you

Answer:

Stevia is very sweet. ½ teaspoon white stevia or extract is equal to one cup of white sugar 1½ to 2 tablespoons of powdered leaf is equal to one cup of sugar You can use stevia in drinks and recipes, and also add to other sweetners, like honey, to increase sweetness with smaller quantities. A leaf can be used to make tea.

Stevia powder can be mixed with warm water to make it more workable, and it can also be purchased in a liquid concentrate form. Baked goods do not brown as much as they would with sugar, nor does stevia have leavening properties when added to yeast .
