Hosta - Soil

By Groundskeeper

Question: Monday, July 24, 2000

I would like to make a hosta bed under some trees mainly a lovely weeping old native pine, the area is a west facing site close to a ravine any suggestions as to what type of soil etc. I should use?

Answer:

Hostas like a rich, moist, well-drained soil, i.e. a good even mix of loam, sand and humus with additions of compost, leaf mould and well-rotted manure from time to time.
