Bulbs - Muscari (Grape Hyacinth)

Transplanting

By Groundskeeper

Question: Friday, April 27, 2001

My grape hyacinth need thinning out. I plan to dig some up and replant. Do I replant in fall or as soon as I dig them up.

Answer:

Grape hyacinth will soon be blooming in Zone 6. Try to wait until they have bloomed and then transplant. Prepare the new location before lifting the bulbs, adding some bone meal or bulb fertilizer. Water well after moving, the leaves will be building up the bulbs' strength for next year's performance.
