Bulbs - Caladiums

Multiple Bulbs

By Groundskeeper

Question: Friday, April 06, 2001

Last year I planted a couple of caladium (Spelling?) in my garden in their original pots from starting them in the apartment. When I took them up in the fall one of them had broken into about eight smaller pieces which I assume is part of the production of new bulbs. My question is: When I pot these up in the next week or so, should I put all of these smaller pieces in one pot or in separate ones? Last year I had one of the bigger bulbs per 6 inch pot. Thank you for your assistance.

Answer:

This is really your choice. However, in order to initially obtain a more impressive plant would grow the smaller pieces in one pot. Keep the roots in tact as much as possible and do not use too large a container.
