The following tasks can be spread over this month and the next. Let the conditions in your area be your guide. In the vegetable garden, remove all plant material that has finished producing, as well as all weeds.
In late October or early November, give a final application of CIL Golfgreen Fall fertilizer to your grass.
Clean equipment such as fertilizer spreaders and sprayers by flushing all parts well with water and letting them dry before reassembling. Lubricate all moving parts.
To prevent rusting on hand tools, rub all metal parts with oil
Gather all plant stakes, cleaning off any soil that adheres, tie them and store.
Use plastic coiled tree guards, narrow-meshed chicken wire, or tar-impregnated tree wrap to protect trunks against damage from rabbits and mice. Extend the guard well above the usual snow level in your area.
If you have a hedge growing along a street the receives a lot of salt in the winter, make a double layer burlap screen to protect the plants.
After the first few frosts, mound soil up around rose buses to a height of about 20 to 30 cm (8 to 12 inches). Romove the soil gradually in the spring when new growth appears.
Mulch young evergreens, shrubs, and trees.
