Roses - Sun Requirements

Sun Vs. Shade

By Groundskeeper

Question: Tuesday, April 24, 2001

I live in Barrie, Ontario which i believe to be zone five. I live in a townhouse and face east. I have a small garden at the front that gets the morning sun only... I would like to plant some roses there could you please suggest any roses that are shade tolerant. Your help is much appreciated...

Answer:

Roses are not shade tolerant. They require sun to thrive. Six hours is recommended, however, they will still do reasonably well with less. Your eastern location will probably be fine - experiment!
