Question: Friday, March 31, 2000
Hello, Last week I sprayed my roses with dormant oil and notice that some of them had little buds on them. I would like to know if it did any harm by spraying them at this point or should I have done it earlier.Thank you
Answer:
Powdery mildew is often created when plants are located in damp shaded locations and where there is insufficient air circulation. Ensure plants are well-spaced and thin out branches by pruning to improve air circulation. Water early in the day and do not spray on foliage. Apply a fungicide such as Safer's 'Defender', a sulphur-based fungicide which controls most common surface-infecting fungal problems. Remember to remove any infected plant material in the fall.
