Annuals - Shady Climbers

Part shade plants

By Groundskeeper

Question: Monday, May 14, 2001

I have put a garden plot approximately 10' x 4' outside my senior parents apartment window. It has rich top soil and this year I planted Coleus and Impatients. At the back, against the wall I put a small trellis, about 5'wx4'h. I would like to plant a shade tolerant, flowering, controlled climber there. This garden gets about 2 hours of full sun in the a.m. After that it goes from filtered to shade. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance for any assistance. I am a big Mark Cullen Show fan. I listen to CFRB Sat. a.m. as often as I can.

Answer:

Two plants you could try would be nasturtiums and sweet peas.
