Fruits and Vegetables - Plum Tree

Q and A

By Groundskeeper

Question: Tuesday, May 07, 2002

I have had an Italian plum tree for about 5 or 6 years and I have never been able to get a proper crop of plums. I get a profusion of buds, the plums develop and then they fall off at all different stages - from green to nearly ripe. Also, the plums seems to have a little spot where it may be bitten by an insect. Any help you can provide would be appreciated.

Answer:

Birds and wasps are the main culprits for dropped fruit. Perhaps you could take a sample to your local garden centre for identification.
