Question: Monday, April 24, 2000
I need help with a Goutweed problem. The problem is...I have gout weed. For the past 8 years I have diligently dug the infected section of my 100' x 10' perennial border several times during the growing season, carefully removing leaves, stems, and every visible root by the barrel full. I have tried Roundup without success. It is taking over and the digging is making the surrounding perennials very unhappy. How can I get rid of it once and for all?
Answer:
Hello Dianne:
Wilson's 'Wipe-Out' is another recommended product but it will also kill anything else it comes in contact with. Goutweed is a tremendously invasive plant and extremely difficult to eradicate once established. The green and white foliage is quite attractive but should be restricted to being grown in containers where it can be controlled. I'm afraid patience and persistence is the best advice, as soon as you see any, remove it immediately.
