  • How to fix hole in bluejean pants?

Do It Yourself (DIY) - 5 hours ago

    Additional Details

I'm giving my old maternity clothes to my friend. One of the maternity pants has a hole in the knee. I tried sewing it up twice when I was pregnant, but when I sat on the floor and had my knees bent (indian style), the hole opened up or a new one would rip just below the hole I sewed up. So how to I fix this with out it ripping when my friend wears them?

  • What are some of the things you can do to create a backyard when you are on a hill?

    Garden & Landscape - 6 hours ago

    Additional Details

I am thinking about purchasing a home that really has no backyard or front yard because it is on a hill, but in my head I imagine us chopping off the hill to create an even ground and doing something with it to make it a sort of patio feel type of backyard. Atleast then it would be more space that it is now with just a small deck. Is this something that can be done? What are your recommendations for a backyard as such?

  • A stumper for the HVAC technicians?

    Maintenance & Repairs - 11 hours ago

    Additional Details

So I'm in an HVAC class. My lab was a unit change out. Everything was going smooth and easy, until I tried to raise the head pressure to 278 psig. The first time I got my head pressure up around 278 psig. While measuring my subcool(which was fluttering around 20 degrees) the high pressure switch cut out. After that It cut out at around 160psig. I bypassed the hi/lo pressure switches, because they kept tripping, and raised head pressure to 200 psig. Above that and the compressor cuts out while the condenser fan keeps blowing. I weighed in the charge of 5.8 lbs of R-22, like the label on the unit called for, if anything it is overcharged. I pulled a triple evac. It is not on me yet to troubleshoot this unit, but I hate failure. This one has two of my instructors suspecting different causes; bad compressor or undercharge. Any ideas? To raise the head pressure, we wrap the coils with plastic and limit airflow. I say it is overcharged because 5.8 lbs is a complete charge with 25' of lineset. This unit has approximately 19' of lineset. The evap coil was not replaced with the condenser. The TXV works fine, it maintains 10 degrees superheat. I think I got everything. The filter drier is just a standard issue. About the size of an orange. The sight glass has a few stray bubbles, which I have received mixed information on. A short time instructor said a proper charge should show no bubbles, another instructor said a proper charge would show some bubbles. The subcool number does show an undercharge...either a coolant loss or I had the scale set to kilos? I think it was a potential relay. All those little black boxes look the same, and I could not see the wiring diagram without removing it from the unit. discharge temp. was around 85-110, the higher number with higher pressure. hermetic, scroll, 208 volt, high temp, used residential unit. We have dozens of A/C's, I swapped out a 13 SEER unit for an antique 12 SEER Rheem. I don't remember the amp draw, but it did increase as pressure rose. This problem developed near the end of the day. So we didn't have time to start troubleshooting. School is closed till Monday, but I have been pondering this since last night. From the questions you have led me with, I tend to suspect the compressor. The compressor was extremely hot to the touch. I think it was a potential relay. I could not read the schematic on it. I admit I am a rookie with no practical field experience. evap pressure stays steady at 70 psig. The pressure rises to around 80 psig when head pressure is forced up to 200 psig.

  • Drywalling question(gaps and jagged sheetrock).?

Do It Yourself (DIY) - 16 hours ago

    Additional Details

I'm not sure if I make sense to you, this is hard to explain. Basically there is a hole or groove about a inch deep in the sheetrock where he failed to snap the board clean. The grove is located in the middle on the ending. Now when I tape over this I can sorta see that I'm taping over a hole in a wall. I feel like this is not the proper way to do it and it can easy be "punched" through later on. What can I do to fix this gap so I can tape over something solider and the paste?

Forget all-day cleaning sessions; get it done in 10-minute rounds

By Megan K. Scott, THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

NEW YORK - Who says you need to spend an entire Saturday cleaning the house?

If you can spare 10 minutes once or twice a day, you can spruce up the house without breaking a sweat:

1. Grab a laundry basket, a large garbage bag and some small garbage bags. Go from room to room, emptying the garbage cans and putting the stuff that doesn't belong in that room into the laundry basket, said Amy Clark, a home management expert for the Kenmore Make-it-Simple Team. Replace the garbage bags as you empty the trash.

2. In another 10-minute chunk, return the items in the laundry basket to their proper homes.

3. Next, sort the mail. Recycle old magazines, newspapers and file away papers, said Alicia Rockmore, CEO of Buttoned Up, an organizational lifestyle company in Ann Arbor, Mich.

4. Do a surface wipe. Take some disinfectant wipes or some cleanser and paper towels and clean all the counters and the sinks in the kitchen and the bathrooms that get used the most often, said Rockmore. "Literally, you can do the kitchen in 10 minutes and one or two bathrooms in 10 minutes."

5. Grab two microfibre cloths and a multipurpose cleanser, said Clark. Dust the surfaces in each room with one cloth and use the other to wipe down the mirrors.

6. Unload and load the dishwasher.

7. Do the final eye, said Rockmore. Check room by room to see if anything needs to be addressed immediately, such as a dirty toilet.

Some of you failed to read the article, this is a 'spruce-up' not a spring cleaning session. The point being if you spruce up everyday it will simply be less to do when you do need to do a full clean. Should you not clean until the weekend, of course it will take longer.

Pigs eat shi*..why live like that. 10 mins won't make a lick of difference if you live like a pig to start.LOL So clean up humans....the Yahoo's of germ police are coming...and WHY does this article get billing in the top 5?

I have 3 children...those tips are fine if you have unexpected company coming...but for the true house cleaning this is so far from the truth. I can believe that they think that the examples above would true produce a clean house. I have spent several years doing housework, and I can say that I have spent more then 10 minutes on the bathrooms and just vacumming and polishing furniture can take a better part of the day. The kitchen it self can be a better part of a day with appliance, floors, cupboards and windows and then the rest of the house needs to be vacummed, polished, dusted. I can only say that any one that considers their home clean according to the tips presented......must still have a dirty house.

Most households have one or two places where junk tends to accumulate (coffee table, desk, front door) Just take your ten minutes a day to clean those areas so it doesn't pile up and you'll save yourself a lot of work on Saturday. It's a lot faster to wash the floors when you don't have to move all the junk first.
