Get a summer bod in four weeks

You can change into your slimmer summer physique pretty quickly if you change your exercise regime to something new and different, something unfamiliar to your body, and do it consistently for 4 - 6 weeks.

Here are some great workouts to tune up for summer exposure.

1. Walk for 20 minutes at a moderate to intense pace, increasing your speed a little every five minutes or so. Then do one set of walking lunges (10 on each leg) bending deeply at the knee with each stride. Next, walk quickly for 5 minutes, and then repeat walking lunges. Repeat 5 minutes of fast walking, followed by walking lunges, 2 more times. Finish with two sets of 10 push-ups.

2. Do 10 abdominal crunches followed by 10 leg lifts on each side (lying on your side). Repeat three times. Then, do 25 jumping jacks followed by 30 seconds of running in place (kicking your knees up high). Repeat 3 times.

3. Walk for 5 minutes, jog for 2 minutes. Repeat 4-5 times.

4. Walk your heart out. Go for a 60-minute walk along the beach, in a lovely neighborhood, or hit the streets for an urban trek, but keep a steady, moderate-to-strong pace for the entire walk.

Make the above four workouts your "workout week" for the next 4 weeks and the prospect of putting on a bathing suit will make you smile.

Have a great summer,
Debbie Rocker

I have to say cutting down my eating and just running or using the eliptical trainer or about 45mins. every other day has done me a world of difference. I've lost 16 lbs and 6 inches since February and I feel great. This may not work for everybody, but it has for me. The bottom line if you want to loose weight and keep it off is that you need to eat less and eat more natural and healthy and also do some form of exercise you enjoy consistantly. Good luck everyone and don't give up! If you have a bad day don't worry about it just keep going and your body knows what it needs to stay healthy. You will feel more energetic as you continue the routine. It's really worth it especially if you reward yourself with a new outfit every now and then.

That sounds great, only not so great for people with sensitive knees.

Always remember that our bodies know what we need, and the way to being healthy is to be active, always, and eat healthfully. And to be happy with who you are, no matter what the weight or shape. We are all loveable!

Do you do all 4 of these every day? I'm thinking do the 60 minute walk which at a decent pace is =3 miles, and do the walk/jog thing at the same time.

Now it sounds great, BUT do you do all of these everyday or..... ??? Cause that sounds like way too much to do all at once don't you think? I have the best diet if you need one. It's very healthy and it really works!! I lost 7 lbs a week on it, now I just need to tone up. If you want it just email me ok. zoes.place@yahoo.ca Enjoy your day!

I agree with the second comment. At least 75% of your overall health and fitness is diet. Conquer that first and everything else is a bonus. I myself exercise almost every day. Anything from running, rollerblading, biking, snowboarding, weight training, pilates, yoga, anything, just get moving every day. Try and work your muscle groups specifically with wieght training if you want definition. But there's no long term, easy fix. Eat clean, stay active and positive :)

this all fine and good if you have no other schedules in your life. Otherwise it would be too difficult to remain faithful to this. I would think we all should just push wawy from the table a little sooner.

One really good idea is to buy a childrens sectioned food plate. Fill the large section with your vegetables and the 2 smaller sections with your meat and other side dish. Your eyes fool your stomach into thinking it is full. Adding this to a plan of 6 small meals a day with excersize makes a huge diference. Easy to do especially if you have small children.

Yes diet is the key to your success and excercise, if you want to loose weight and look good that is the HEALTHY and the best way to get results! It is hard, but it comes down to just those two important things in life......do both, in moderation, always keep moderation in mind, and seek medical advice before taking on anything new and challenging, especially if you are older. I know how hard it can be and how we allow ourselves to feel so down about our bodies....so also think about style, not all styles will look great on all bodies. Clothing plays a HUGE role in how we look. If you are already at a healthy weight and keep feeling you are fat, maybe you just need to take a look at what you are dressing yourself in, I weigh about 135 to 140 5"3 I always weighed about 110-115, but I am in my 30's now and two children later.... so I have discovered dressing can play a seriously part of how well our bodies look, when we are DONE dressing it! I also have accepted that unless I want to spend my life in a GYM and eating lettuce, my 110 weight is unrealistic at 30 something to maintain anymore.........so always keep it REAL, I mean who wants to spend all your time trying to TURN BACK TIME!

It says very clearly that it is a workout "week", so these are to be done throughout the week, not all in one day. I run 4 times a week an hour each time for a total of 40 kms a week as well as do weights twice a week, covering each body part. I must say that even with such an intense workout, I cannot burn fat unless I eat a very healthy diet, almost vegetarian. For years I was stuck at the weight that I was at, even with so much exercising and I only started losing a lot (20 pounds so far) when I changed to a super-healthy diet, that is, 60% veggies, lots of brown rice and white meats... If your digestive system is not functioning properly (because of eating so much junk, sugars, etc.) exercising alone will not do it. You have to detox, cleanse your system and afterwards stick to foods that are nice to your system and help it burn fat and bring your metabolism back up. I would suggest you all check out the Dr. Joshi's 21-day Holistic Detox. It has done wonders for people!!!

As a believer in the benefits of exercise, I think doing something 'new' for your body is a great idea. Also, as dieting is hard for some people (myself included), exercising is a great way to lose weight. Just an hour at the gym 4-5 times a week and you will definitely see improvement. And don't go overboard with the dieting, just cut back on the more fattier foods... eat popcorn instead of chips, try milk instead of cream in your coffee, try fat free yogurt and mayo (its really not that bad!), and eat salad with your meals to cut down your consumption of the fattier and starchier foods. AND DON'T FORGET ABOUT BREAKFAST!! Make it the first thing you do each day! This worked for me, I've lost 40 pounds in the last 8 months! Don't get frustrated, everything takes time, and buying (or just trying on) clothes in a smaller sizes will motivate you for sure.

Don't be too hard on yourself. If your doing more and eating better than yesterday that's an improvement. Don't look at what you didn't do, look at what you did. It makes you want to do more!

Since Feb. 29th I started eating less carbs (no bread, sweets, pasta etc.), and started running every day for at least 30 minutes. In April I ran my first 5km race. Last weekend I ran my second 5km run, and am proud to say I've lost ca. 30 pounds so far. If I can do it, everybody can. If running is not for you, try walking, swimming, anything that will shake up the body, used to routine of doing nothing and eating too much (or enough to keep current weight). Eat less carbs, more fruits, veggies, meat, fish, and be active, in many different ways. Just going shopping is great workout, if doesn't end up at some fast food place......

exercesing is the key to a beautiful body. And its not a complete lie that you can eat a lot while exercising often and still keep a really nice body. the most important thing to do is to control the amounts of food you eat and to balance it with the exercise you do, the longer you exercise the more the calories you'd burn. always remember don't get obssessed with a diet .. eat everything you want just rational amounts! enjoy life and love your body!!

All of these things are good, but they don't solve the fact that we carry around a whole lot of extra weight in our colons. Who knows what is in there right now?

It really depends on each body. My mom has been trying to lose weight, and she does next to no exercise - but she has been eating a LOT better than before, and being faithful to always drinking green tea (which she says is 80% of the reason she's lost weight!). I, on the other hand, have been eating a billion times better than I used to, and I am hardly seeing any results. I've recently started at the gym - so we'll see where that takes me. It's all depends on the body, and I think this article is great for changing up a routine. Both exercise and diet never hurt anyone, right? =)

Okay, well, I just mentioned the first time around that everyone should keep in mind that this advice augments your current exercise regime. It's a way to break a plateau in your current exercise program. Also, simply walking won't maximize weight loss... make sure to pick up the weights! Weight training is important to maximize calorie burn. A pound of muscle burns 50-60 calories at rest, compared to a pound of fat which burns virtually nothing. Couple this with the fact that after the age of thirty, you lose about a half pound of muscle through natural aging and atrophy, that its a must to hit those weights... Anyways, hope everyone gets the body they're looking for this summer! I'm already there, but I enjoy spreading the goodness about!

20% is what you do- 80% is what you EAT- what's the point of starting a fitness routine if you eat like crap? Clean up the diet and incorporate daily, moderate exercise! And find something you enjoy- you're more likely to stick with it!

unfortunatly for those of us who already exercise, diet is the only way we are really going to lose the weight. THis may be out of date, but I was taught that diet is responsible for 80% of weight loss...guess that means I will have to actually try to stick to the right size of portion

I think she means do each workout once a week for 4 workouts a week. Dieting helps, things like green tea help, but exercising can boost your energy levels. good luck everyone, hope to see you in a bikini this summer!

I think everyone has enough time for a 30-60 minute walk/jog a day. Stop messing around and just do it. Diet is the key to weight loss however, and getting healthy and thinner is a PROCESS, not an overnight deal. Water only fasting can also help many people. See Paul Bragg's books.

Walking is a fantastic excersise, and something that anyone can do. I started walking more on campus, and walking faster, parking farther from the building. I started drinking more water (About 2L everyday), and changed my diet. So far I have lost 16 pounds and 10 INCHES overall! I plan on giving this a try for the rest of the summer to see how much more it can help!
