TORONTO - The Ontario Ministry of Health says parents and children shouldn't be scared to trick-or-treat because of H1N1 this Halloween, but should use extra care when celebrating.
Ministry spokesman Kevin Finnerty says trick-or-treaters should take anti-flu precautions, such as wearing gloves along with costumes and using hand sanitizers in between houses.
He says it's smart to purchase store bought masks, and to wash them down before wearing them and never share masks or candy.
Finnerty adds that homeowners handing out candy shouldn't let kids fish around in the candy bowl.
He says it's a good idea to wipe down front door bells, knockers and handles periodically to prevent germs from spreading.
And if children feel sick, it's better they stay at home.
