  • Surge of heart attacks during major sporting events

I wonder if people who have known heart conditions, or history of serious heart conditions in their family and are big, I mean big sports fans likely to get excited, couldn't prepared themselves, instead of counting on doctors to do that. Maybe get as much rest as possible for at least a week prior, making sure to pay particular attention to their food and drink including coffee, alcohol, pop, and drink more water. A real effort to go for a walk everyday, not a complete life change but a deliberate attention to their health at least one week (preferably two) leading up to big events. Maybe look into healthier snacks for the game (don't go vegies&dip on them all at once though, that's just not realistic) and make sure medications and timers to take them are set and near by with a bottle of water. Perhaps the area where doctors could help here would be to start passing that kind of information on to all their patients and encourage them to pass it on to anyone who'll listen. Having a heart attack watching a game from the comfort of your own home is just too tragic really. I mean IT IS one's own life on the line, if the game is worth watching it's worth living to tell about it!

Just wondering if heart attack rates are higher if fans watch sporting events alone or with a group?
