Consumers warned to avoid cumin product possibly containing salmonella

TORONTO - Consumers are being asked to avoid a certain brand of cumin because the spice may be contaminated with salmonella.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency says the affected product, GD Ground Cumin, is sold in 31 gram packages.

The packages bear a UPC code of 6-20383-01038-2 and affected lots are stamped 01X22C, 01X29C, 02X07C and 02X13C.

The product, made by a company in St. Jerome, Que. (Les Aliments G. Dion) is sold in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Quebec, Ontario and Alberta.

There have been no reported illnesses because of the spice, which is most frequently used in Indian and Mexican cuisine
