Alanis Morissette back in top form on morning run

Provided by Hello

Upon the release of her seventh album, Flavors of Entanglement, in the spring of last year, Alanis Morissette came under fire for having gained a few extra pounds. But, spotted on a morning run in Brentwood, California, this week it was plain to see that the Canadian-born songstress has shed the extra weight.

Looking strong and fit, the Ironic singer was jogging along with a friend, clearly working through her long battle with weight, which began when a record executive told her to go on a diet.

"My response was, 'but I'm a singer,'” she first reported in 2005. "That started a whole cycle."

"Now I go through phases when it comes to food. Sometimes I'm uber-health-conscious. Other times I'll cut myself some slack," the multi-talented star went on to say.

And, in svelte shape, Alanis appears to currently be on a health kick.

The 33-year-old is also enjoying her guest stint on the Showtime TV series Weeds alongside Mary-Louise Parker. Alanis - who has forayed into acting many times, most notably in the 1999 flick Dogma - plays Dr. Audra Kitson, the obstetrician of Mary-Louise’s character Nancy.

But that’s not the only thing keeping the singer busy these days. She is also trying her hand at writing. “It’s a non-linear book,” she recently told Rolling Stone magazine.

“It’s about all the themes I obsess and pontificate over. All this sort of body-dysmorphia-spirit humor, travelogues, photographs, articles I’ve written in magazines... touching on health and detoxing and re-toxing and the importance of integrating it all.”

But don’t count Alanis out of the music game. The chanteuse also revealed that a new album - or perhaps even two - will soon be in the works.

“I have an idea for two records,” she says. “Usually two journals make a record and I have about ten full right now. As soon as the book is finished I’ll dive into one of the two.”
