Stretch Marks

Stretch marks occur when your skin has been asked to stretch more than it’s designed to stretch.

By Ann Douglas

Stretch marks occur when your skin has been asked to stretch more than it’s designed to stretch. The result is red marks that appear on parts of your body—typically your thighs, stomachs, and breasts. These marks typically start out looking like red crayon marks, but generally fade to silvery streaks over time. They seldom disappear entirely, however.

Tip: The best way to avoid stretch marks is to keep your weight gain within the healthy range.
