You may be able to get some extra willpower against the munchies by following your nose.
A study published in the journal Appetite showed that inhaling the scent of peppermint every couple of hours helped people eat less overall -- and eat better.
By the end of the two week study, the people who had sniffed peppermint every couple of hours during the day consumed 3000 fewer calories each week. They also ate less fat, less saturated fat, and less sugar than those who didn't inhale the mint.
The researchers say peppermint increases activity in the area of the brain responsible for alertness. Inhaling peppermint oil helps trigger a sense of fullness after meals, enhances your sense of taste and smell, and even improves concentration and mental activity.
