  • I got my tooth filled on monday, it's friday. How long should it hurt?

    Dental - 17 hours ago

    Additional Details

I had a big cavity filled on Monday. Dentist said it might still be sore...Well I didn't feel much the first night but the next day it did hurt when I bit on something. I ate pretty carefully for the rest of the week but I did eat on that side of my mouth. ..Yesterday in the evening it started to hurt! I had to take an advil.. and I was careful with it again today but this evening it is hurting again. Feels like a tooth when you have sensitivity and cold has been put on it..but it's not dissapating and I'm taking my second advil today. Do you think it should still hurt? Maybe I chewed on it too soon and it will be sensitive for a few more days? I have read that it could be up to 2 weeks hurting and some people say no it should not hurt. .I would call the dentist but they are not open till monday. Anyone know??? Thanks!
  • How do I get rid of the "fantasies" I have where I get hurt?

Please, don't call me psychotic. I just need some advice as to where to go from here. I'm currently 14 and female (in case you couldn't tell by the name or photo ;) ). I think I remember things really starting when I was 11. But ever since I was little, I would love to see the hospital scenes on the TV. Like if someone was in the hospital, I always wanted to see it. In fact, I would sometimes (and even up until recently did) make up scenes where a certain character I favour is saving the day and ends up injured or something like that and everyone pays attention to him/ her. But I also remember this starting when I was 11: I would always make up stories in my head where I was the victim. It got worst when I was probably 12 or 13. I would complain over minor things to people whose attention I 'craved'. For example, if I got a sore wrist, I'd wear a tensor bandage. Or if my knee hurt, I'd go get ice, even though it was probably just a growing pain. Most of the time it was in my head though. Like thinking about what it would be like if I had to tell a certain person I had cancer or something. At the age of 13 (in my summer before 8th grade) I decided this is enough. I have to stop this type of thinking. It is not normal. I read that building your self confidence could help. So I tried that and within hiurs, the fantasies had no more appeal. Before I continue, you should note that I like these fantasies, they're not something I exactly dread. But when I'm making up one of the stories in my head, I really enjoy it. I do dislike the fact that I enjoy it and I am aware that this is not normal. But despite my confidence efforts, they came back. One slip up where I said "It's okay, it's been a bad day, you can think about one of your stories" leads to two, which leads to three and sooner or later I'm back to the abnormal fantasies. I was doing really well since I started high school in September. I had maybe a few days where they came back. And once in a while where they had little or no appeal. But a week ago I felt like I was going to pass out in class one day, I didn't tell anyone until that evening but after that they came back. I am currently in a state where they are somewhat appealing to me. So I once asked this question on an alternate account. (This is also an alternate account, my friends cannot see this question, but I will still choose a best answer). One girl said she was 21 and still had these types of fantasies. I was thinking I could still live with them, but I realize I shouldn't. I have dreams for my future. My job, my family, all that stuff. But when I think about it I don't want that perfect future I have planned to be plagued with these sick thoughts. I don't want to have them. It makes me feel embarassed to even think about myself. I can't confront anybody about it because I am so ashamed. I know I should see a therapist of some sort, but 1. I don't know how I'd approach him/ her 2. I don't know how to ask my mom about that or how to keep it private and 3. I don't want to be said to be mentally unstable or something and be put in a mental institution. So what would be advisable to do from here?

  • I am 18 and I am constantly worrying about having cancer?

    Cancer - 1 day ago

    Additional Details

Ok I'm 18 years old and I have been scared since I was 12 that I might get esophageal or stomach cancer. I had h.pylori in my system at age 13 and took antibiotics for a month but I don't know if its gone. I always had this dull pain in my upper stomach area and especially when I eat spicy or dairy products. I've had this pain since I was 12 and I'm so scared that its going to lead to some kind of cancer before I'm like 30. I also have the feeling of a lump in my throat which might lead to esophageal cancer. I went to a specialist and he said that theres no way I can have those kind of cancers right now and he didn't recommend a endoscopy or anything. It made me feel a little better but recently my stepfather was diagnosed with liver cancer and it really got me down. I'm scared and extremely sad for him and I just can't think of how hes feeling right now. I'm just scared...my doctor said I have an inflammated stomach and he always gives me zantac which I don't know if its helping or not. I'm gonna go next week maybe cause I wanna do a blood test to see if the bacteria is still in my stomach. I just cant stop thinking about the cancer its driving me crazy!

Spring back into shape

If you're looking to spring into shape and shed unwanted winter pounds, get out your walking shoes.

Spring back into shape

At last, the first breath of spring --and it's time to take to the streets. If you're looking to spring into shape and shed those unwanted winter pounds, get out your walking shoes.

Walk the walk

Walking is one of the easiest and least expensive forms of exercise - and as the days become milder, it's a great way to clear the mind of winter cobwebs. All you need is a sturdy pair of walking shoes, comfortable clothing, and, of course, a hefty dose of motivation. Here are 5 tips for getting started.

Start slow. If you haven't been active over the winter, start slowly to avoid injury. A brisk 10-minute walk outside (or on a treadmill) will usually do the trick. Do this every day for a week, and then begin to add five minutes to your walk the following week. Continue to add five minutes to each workout until you are walking as long as desired. Remember, the goal is to walk fast enough to reach your target heart rate, yet slow enough that you can still maintain a conversation. (Check out this heart rate calculator.)

Don't skip the stretches. Incorporate a warm-up, cool-down and stretches into your fitness routine. Start your walk at a slow warm-up pace, and then stop to do your stretches. It is important to not begin stretching until you are 5-7 minutes into your walk. (Think of your body as a car engine and your blood as oil. You need to lubricate your joints before you start.) End your walk with a slower cool-down pace and stretch well. Stretching not only feels great, but it also helps to prevent injury.

Maintain good posture. Remember your mother's advice about standing up straight? Using good posture allows you to breathe easier, be more comfortable and avoid back pain. Here are some good posture pointers:

--Do not arch your back or lean forward or backwards. This will put strain on the back muscles.

--Keep your eyes focused forward, not looking down, but rather 20 feet ahead.

--Reduce strain on your neck and back by keeping your chin parallel to the ground.

--Shrug once and let your shoulders fall and relax, with shoulders slightly back.

--Suck in your stomach.

--Tuck in your behind and rotate your hip forward slightly. This will keep you from arching your back.

Keep your water bottle handy. Prevent dehydration by drinking lots of fluids before, during, and after a walk. Ideally, you should take a drink every 15 to 30 minutes. Remember that thirst is not an accurate indicator of how much fluid you have lost. If you wait until you are thirsty to replenish body fluids, you may already be dehydrated. Most people do not become thirsty until they have lost more than 2 per cent of their body weight. And if you only drink enough to quench your thirst, you may still be dehydrated.

Make it a habit. Schedule your walk or exercise time as you would any other appointment. Once you make exercise a habit, you'll wonder how you ever did without it! (Need some inspiration? Arrange to walk with a friend -- or how about a Virtual fitness coach ? It also helps to vary your route whenever possible.)

yes.walking is the most efficient way for some ,like me, to lose the pounds AND the walk always makes me feel so much more energetic after, and seems to make me want to eat more fresh fruits and veggies instead of my old habit of jumping in the car and buying a KFC lunch pack. Boy,just the walking for 1/2 to 1 hour daily instead of driving or using the TTC ,combined with no more KFC (except on the odd occasion -- which i now eat without the skin on the chicken for 1 piece and leave it on for 1 piece so i don't lose the KFC flavour completely) has helped me lose over 10 pounds in this summer alone. And I didn't feel deprived of good taste at all, and didn't miss the weight I lost at all.

During the warmer seasons, I like to jog late at night to look up at the stars or early in the morning when the beautiful sun is coming up over the mountain horizon. I also do cardio, yoga, and I just bought myself a pair of women's pink boxing gloves as I also box and practice self defence moves.

I use 3 different types of machines to target my arms, legs, abs, and butt 1 hour a day, 5 days a week. Listening to my MP3 and having a bottle of water handy keeps me from getting bored and dehydrated/hungry. I never eat past 7:30 PM, and I control the portions of food I eat per day. I also try to eat from all food groups, and I've eliminated chips, pop, and sweets (except chocolates OCCASIONALLY) from my diet. I don't starve myself because then I won't have the energy to exercise. The most important meal is breakfast to keep you alert and strong.

I swear by walking. I walk 1hr per day except Sunday where I go for long hikes with the dog. I eat only whole grain bread, skim milk only, whole wheat pasta, and I don't eat past 7pm. I lost 30 pounds, and toned up in just under a year and I feel great.

Thin maybe in, but, Fat is where it's at. SAVE THE PLANET, LET THE PEOPLE GO, SAVE THE TREES, PLANTS, ANIMALS, & INSECTS !!! There is too much talk on health. Being healthy is really not a good thing for the planet. Humans should not be permitted to have the fruits, vegetables, and vitamins. These items are hazardous to the health of the planet, as they will cause a prolonged life span in the human, thus causing a healthier human to live longer, and pollute more, and use too many of the planets resources. This will have an adverse effect on trees, plants, animals, and insects. Don't eat meat of any kind, instead load up on any and all snack foods, eat cake laced with sugar.Try not to do any more exercising then moving from the couch to the fridge, try not to strain your fingers as you change channels using the remote,if you strain your fingers you won't be able to put more food into your mouth. Try to become as fat as possible, you will then be doing your part to save the planet, as you will pass on sooner, but you will be replenishing the earth. If you stay fat or even get fatter, then you won't need the following health tip below,as you won't be around long enough to reap it's benefits. There is a natural way to stay viral free, and that is to smoke about 10 cigarettes a day. The toxins from the cigarettes will coat your lungs and stay there, providing a protective coating that no drug manufacture could come up with. Then when you breath in something like swine flu, the virus gets into your lungs, then the toxins from the cigarettes that have coated your lungs will kill the virus. Now granted cigarettes will eventually kill you, but that is ok, because you will die when your in your 70's or 80's , and that will be planet friendly.
