Ground Pork and Mozzarella Lasagna

1. Ingredients

  1. 3 tbsp (45 mL) butter*
  2. 1 onion, chopped
  3. 1 lb (500 g) lean ground pork
  4. 1 tsp (5 mL) oregano
  5. 2 clove garlic, minced
  6. 1 tbsp (15 mL) basil
  7. 1/4 cup (50 mlL chili sauce
  8. Salt and pepper, to taste
  9. 1 package rippled lasagna noodles, 1 lb (500 g)
  10. 2 tbsp (25 mL) butter
  11. 1 cup (250 mL) béchamel sauce
  12. 1 cup (250 mL) tomato sauce
  13. 6 slices Canadian Mozzarella cheese Béchamel Sauce : 1 tbsp (15 mL) butter
  14. 2 tsp (10 mL) onion finely minced
  15. 2 tbsp (25 mL) flour
  16. 1 1/2 cups (375 mL) milk, scalded
  17. 1/8 tsp (1 mL) salt
  18. 1/8 tsp (1 mL) ground white pepper
  19. Pinch of nutmeg

2. Cooking Directions

  1. Béchamel Sauce :
  2. In a saucepan, melt butter and cook onion over very low heat until soft. Stir in the flour and cook the roux until it is foamy and is just beginning to color. Add the milk, whisking constantly, until the mixture is thick and smooth. Stir in remaining ingredients and simmer sauce over very low heat for about 20 minutes or until sauce is reduced to 1 cup (250 mL). Strain sauce before using.
  3. Lasagna :
  4. Heat 3 tbsp (45 mL) of butter in pan and cook onion for 3 to 4 minutes. Add ground pork, oregano, garlic and basil and cook for 5 to 6 minutes. Add chili sauce, mix thorougly, season with salt and pepper and cook, covered, for 3 to 4 minutes. Let mixture cool.
  5. Blanch lasagna noodles in salted water. Butter 9 x 13 inches (23 x 33 cm) ovenproof dish. Layer lasagna noodles, béchamel sauce, meat mixture and tomato sauce, ending with lasagna noodles. Top with Canadian Mozzarella and bake in oven for 30 to 35 minutes, at 300 °F (150 °C).

    One day i invited my friend Amy to my house over dinner and she was so suprised to see my mom making home-made pasta and breads from flours. Amy thought pasta and breads are something we buy at grocery stores. I also got invited to amy's house on her b-day and was so surprised to see her mom cooking foie gras.     Can someone please tell me why my pie crust is crumbling when i try to pick it up? I bought the jiffy pie crust you mix yourself and i made it a few days ago and had no problem! now i am trying to make them tonight and when ever i try to pick it up it falls apart.t could it have anything to do with it being hot and humid in the house or maybe not enough water even tho i put the same amount in as before?
