ABOUT THIS EXPERT

They say that when you're 10 years old, you know instinctually what you want to be when you grow up. At 10, Mairlyn Smith wanted to be a teacher, an actor, a cooking show host, a cookbook author and really thin. To date, Mairlyn has been a teacher, an actor, a cooking show host and a cookbook author. She is still working on that thin thing.

The only professional home economist in Canada that is also an alumnus of the Second City Comedy Troupe, Mairlyn has been seen on CBC's Newsworld, CTV's Canada AM and every breakfast TV show in Canada, including City TV Toronto's Breakfast Television. A freelance writer with articles appearing in Chatelaine, Today's Parent, Canadian Living, Homemakers, alive, Health Essentials and the Toronto Star; her latest best-selling nutrition/cookbook Ultimate Foods for Ultimate Health and don't forget the chocolate! co-authored with dietician Liz Pearson, is in its fourth print run.
