How would you women feel about your partner not caring about his appearance, i mean not even trying to dress nice, go to the mall with you with tatty cut - out pants made into shorts, abit dirty, a shirt with a couple of holes and stained, (He says its clean, its been washed) but you can see its not looking nice. And he is bare foot aswell., he is always like this no matter what amount of clothes you buy him. I buy him a new shirt and new pants and not long and he has worked on some dirty job at home wearing them and ruined them with grease etc. Happens again and again, how would you feel about that? I feel ashamed to be seen with him like that in public as he looks like a homeless person . Does it mean i do not love him enough because it affects me?? Would you love some one no matter how yucky they dress because they just do not care or would it make you love them less and feel ashamed?? I want my man to dress nice and care about his appearance but he does not. Guys, are any of you out there like this?? Why is he like this? please no silly answers, i am serious. person He is my ex - husband and he has been wanting to get back together, but it really puts me off with the way he doesnt care about looking half decent. (Always was like this and has not changed) I did try when i was with him, hopelessly.
  • how to deal with the much loved boyfriend and best friend complex.?

I've been going out with my boyfriend for almost two years and it has been mainly fine with him getting along with my friends. BUT he met one of my best friends who is male but i have known since i was about 6years old and he got extremely jealous and gets somewhat annoyed when i talk to him on the phone or even on facebook. and said that my friend was trying to make a move on me and its not appropriate for me to talk to him anymore. i assured him that we both see each other as pretty much being either gay or like a brother and sister. there is no bf/gf love between us what so ever. but he still doesn't accept that answer. one morning i woke up to him going though my phone and reading every single text message he has sent me and i have responded to and we got into a massive argument because he saw a message that my friend wrote starting with "hey beautiful" then i brought up that he doesn't trust me because i have said a billion times that there is no feelings between us to which he said its not that he does trust me he doesn't trust my friend (which i don't understand because it takes two people to start cheating). anyway i got really mad an pretty much walked out on him and haven't responded to his calls in the last two days just because im not sure what to say anyway what my question was is what can i do to keep both relationships (both friend and bf) without having this dilemma

Well at uni i was a good friend with a girl (at least i thought i was). While at uni we did help each other when needed. Well when we left uni she started to act strange. She has been ignoring my calls and texts for no reason. I know i have not upset her at all. This has been happening since Spetember. I know that she could be busy but to not reply to my text and to ignore nearly all my calls shows that she wants to ignore me. I have been told this in secret form her friend and have been told to act as if i am not aware about it. Now what i want to know is what should i do? I will totally ignore her and remove her as a friend on fb (although that seems childish). but if and when i see her what shall i say? I am saying this becasue we do have common friends. Shall i question her about why she has been ignoring me. I know that we can lose in touch with people but this si totally out of the blue and strange. I have given her some space. I mean i stopped calling her for months and when i did she still did not really talk

The perfect vegetable soup

Posted Thu, Feb 07, 2008
POST A COMMENT »
I'm a big fan of vegetable soups, particularly from roasted vegetables, but often find myself falling into the trap of adding cream or butter to give extra body and flavor to the soup. What other options are there? Stock. I am not fond of using meat-based stocks because they often eclipse the more delicate aspects of vegetable soups. Here is my favorite recipe that can be added to a soup base or enjoyed simply on its own. And below are additional tips to help you make the perfect stock.

Simple Vegetable Stock

Makes 5-6 cups

1 tablespoon olive oil
1 medium-size yellow onion, peeled and sliced
1 carrot, peeled and sliced
1 parsnip, peeled and sliced
2 stalks celery, peeled and sliced
1 leek, stemmed, washed, and sliced
½ cup white mushroom scraps, washed, if available
Sea salt and freshly ground pepper to taste

1.  In a medium pot, add the olive oil and all of the vegetables. Season with salt and pepper to taste. ?Sweat" the vegetables for 5-8 minutes, stirring, and then cover with about 1 1/2 quarts cold water. (Cold water will yield a stock that is less apt to be cloudy.)

2.  Bring the water to a gentle boil, skim and reduce the heat, so the stock simmers. Cook for 25-30 minutes. Strain, pressing gently on the vegetables to extract the maximum flavor. Use immediately or freeze to use at a later date.

Tips:

- Less is more. How much stock do you really need? Not much. Better to make less stock with more flavor. Be skimpy when adding the water and generous when adding the vegetables. You can always add more water, but you can never take it out. I made a lot of vegetable stock that tasted like dish water before learning my lesson.

- If you are mixing a lot of different vegetables, try to strike a balance between inherently sweet vegetables (squash, peas, corn) and slightly bitter ones (chicory, endive).

-Vegetable scraps definitely belong in a stock but don't go overboard. One of my mentors wisely told me " stock pots are good for scraps but they are not garbage cans."

-Make sure your vegetables, both whole and scrap, are cut to a similar size and thickness when they go into the pot. That way, they will cook more evenly and result in a better flavor.

-Avoid any really strong herbs (i.e. dill or an abundance of rosemary) or vegetables that may have a bitter skin (i.e. squash or rutabaga). You can always experiment by using the scraps from a vegetable you like to see if it performs well in a stock. Mushroom scraps are "gold" (but don't forget to wash them first)!

-For a naturally thick stock, use vegetables tied in cheesecloth and sprinkle a handful of lentils or dried white beans. Cook until tender.  Once tender, purée the beans and put them back in the stock to thicken.

-Experiment with a "brown" vegetable stock by lightly oiling and roasting some peeled shallots and onions together in the oven. Once cooked tender, transfer the vegetables to a pot and cover them with cold water. Simmer for 20 to 30 minutes, salt lightly and strain.

- Unlike meat stocks, vegetable stocks don't need long-term cooking to bring out their flavors. When you have your mix of vegetables, simply cover them with cold water, boil, skim, add a pinch of salt, and simmer for no more than a half an hour.. Don't let the stock "steep" too long. Once it is cooked, strain and discard the vegetables. It will leave the liquid with a cleaner flavor.

-How will you know when your stock is "done"? Taste it! Flavor is the best indicator of all.
