You may not be able to go trick-or-treating anymore but grown-ups can still have Halloween parties! Here are 10 great ideas for cocktails, food and décor to ensure your Halloween bash is a spooky success!
1. Give Halloween-themed names to your cocktails. For example, re-name a cranberry and vodka cocktail to “Spooky Spritzer”, a Bloody Mary to “Goblin’s Blood” or a Black Russian to “Black Cat”. The possibilities are endless—it just takes some creativity!
2. Make creepy ice cubes. You can add a fake plastic spider or fly into each individual section of a freezer tray before freezing—this’ll create ice cubes that are bound to get a reaction out of your guests.
3. Serve spooky-style gelatin shots. All you need is a package of powdered gelatin, water, vodka, gummy worms and plastic shot glasses. Prepare the gelatin according to the directions on the package and then add vodka. Pour the liquid into the shot glasses and insert a gummy worm into each glass. Chill in the refrigerator until ready to serve.
4. Use miniature pumpkins as dip bowls. Hollow out small-sized pumpkins and use them to serve a variety of dips such as guacamole, hummus and baba ganoush.
5. Serve Halloween desserts. Make cupcakes and decorate them using orange icing and black jelly beans. You can also make a cake and use icing to decorate it to look like a tombstone with the letters “R.I.P.” on it.
6. Create the mood with lighting. Set an eerie and scary tone to the party by keeping the lights dimmed and using tealights to illuminate your home.
7. Choose music to match the mood. Play haunted organ music in the background or prepare a soundtrack of spooky songs. “Thriller” by Michael Jackson is a must!
8. Decorate the house. Visit your local dollar store to purchase inexpensive Halloween-themed decorations. You’re sure to find a lot great stuff including skeleton cut-outs, plastic bats, and fake spider webs.
9. Purchase Halloween party supplies. Get other party supplies from the dollar store such as plastic cups and utensils and paper napkins in black and orange. You might even find a plastic black cauldron which would be great to use as a punch bowl.
10. Carve a pumpkin. What’s a Halloween party without a jack-o-lantern? This is one of the most fun parts of Halloween for kids and adults alike. Be sure to visit the grocery store or your local fruit market to pick out a pumpkin for carving so you have one on display for your party!
