Holiday Flicks

Get in the mood with these classic holiday movies.

By Laura Flanagan
Holiday Flicks

The Flick: Love, Actually
The Players: Starring Hugh Grant, Keira Knightley and Colin Firth, to name a few
Why we love it: It's a modern-day fairytale where the girl gets the guy, everyone is happy and we're left feeling all warm and tingly inside. Why can't that happen more in real life?!

The Flick: National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation
The Players: Starring Chevy Chase, Randy Quaid and a young Juliette Lewis
Why we love it: It's the charred turkey carcass, fried kitty cat, and the cousins we're glad we don't have. Let's just say we can't get through the holidays without watching this classic at least once.

The Flick: The Nightmare Before Christmas
The Players: Starring Danny Elfman, Chris Sarandon and Catherine O'Hara
Why we love it: The whimsical world of Tim Burton-the costumes, the music and that wry humour-enthralls us every time. For those of you who say, "bah, humbug" to the holidays, this dark, animated flick is for you.

The Flick: Scrooged
The Players: Starring Bill Murray, Karen Allen and a cameo by Robert Goulet
Why we love it: This time of year it's always good to remember what's important. Friends and family = important. Money and possessions = not so much.

The Flick: Elf
The Players: Starring Will Ferrell and Zooey Deschanel
Why we love it: Um...did we mention Will Ferrell is in it? We also realize we all can learn a thing or two from Elf's über-positive vibe and we fell hard for Zooey's dreamy singing voice, too (wonder if this is where She & Him was born...).
