The updo can be a great way to sophisticate your formal look, but you can also end up looking like you're the lead singer in a B52's cover band. There's a fine line with updo's and I don't want you to cross it this summer. Whether you're a bride, bridesmaid, guest or father of the bride, there's an updo that's just right for you. There's more to the updo' then the french twist, so if you're heading into the wedding jungle, try out one of these stylish updo's and you'll have the confidence to throw down a mean chicken dance at this summers weddings.
The Uninhibited Ballerina
At this year's 2009 Lanvin show, models wore their hair loosely slicked back with a messy chignon placed in the middle or upper part of their head. To achieve this look, blow dry your hair upside down and gently twist a pony tail, pinning it securely in place. This 'do looks amazing if you have thick hair and is best if you're in a hurry. Throw a pair of dangly earrings and you're sophisticated glam.

Fascinating Fascinators
A few weeks back, I brought up "facinators", the newest hair accessory trend. Fascinators are basically just really cool clips, barrets feathers and bands that compliment your style. Don't overdo it, just get a nice piece that goes well with your outfit and use it hold your hair in place. There are also tons of pretty pins on the market that will hold your 'do in place until the wee hours. If you can't find a fascinator that ,well, fascinates you, head to your jewellery box and grab your favorite brooch or earring, slap some glue on the back and stick a pin to it. Now you've got a custom made fascinator without breaking the bank.
Twisted Sister
This classy look requires a bit of patience and maybe a hand from a friend. It's princess-like qualities are ultra-feminine. Blow-dry your hair as normal then create an off-centre part. If you know how to complete a french braid you'll be a star at creating this look. It's all about taking half-inch sections (beginning at the front of your head) twisting it inward and securing it with a pin. Once you finish the right side, do the same on the left. When you come together, wrap the remaining hair underneath and secure it with some pins. To make sure it stays in place, hairspray the hell out of it with a medium-strength hairspray.
The Side Chignon
This one is great for any woman who wants a fashion forward look, without a whole lot of fuss. Simply blow dry your hair upside down and add some velcro rollers for height. Gather the hair at whatever side you chose and put it in a side ponytail. Wrap the hair around the elastic until you have a loose bun. Secure it in place with pins and spray lightly for hold. Take some wispy pieces out in front so that your look doesn't come off as harsh.
Sexy Siren
It really is possible to soft and hard at the same time, qualities easily achieved with this runway ready look. You need a lot of volume to pull this one off so start by adding some volumizing mousse to wet hair. Again, blow-dry upside down and add a few large velcro rollers to the the top section of hair. Then it's time for the backcomb bonanza. Don't be shy about really teasing the hair, once you see the finished product, you'll see why. Gather hair at the nape of the neck and begin to twist. Start securing hair with bobby pins wherever you feel hair will be most secure. Once you complete the twist and finish the look, pull some pieces out to make it look a bit frenzied. This look is classy but also a bit wild so don't be afraid to finish it off with heavy eye make-up.
Hopefully this helps you when deciding how to wear you hair during wedding season. No matter what you do with your hair however, you'll never be as beautiful as the bride, unless she goes for the undercut. Then you're pretty much guaranteed to be the winner of the beauty contest.
