The new trend this Fall/Winter season seems to be a resurrection of all things black.
Hair, shoes, clothes are all taking a Gothic turn and that includes makeup!
But don't be mistaken, as it's not the style you'd think would be confined to the back corner of the macabre death metal club. Instead it's a strong, polished statement that needs a healthy dose of confidence with a heap of fashionista to pull it off.
Thanks to the runways of YSL, the black lipgloss has moved the trend of all things black along quite swiftly. If you are willing to give it a go, the Beauté Pur Black gloss is selling out fast, so don't hesitate if you are looking for the originator of the trend (with fantastic quality results, by the way).
Some other, more affordable players, are in the game as well.
MAC has dedicated an entire collection to the trend. The 'StyleBlack' set of sultry products includes MAC Creamsheen Lipstick in Black Knight which is a true black with a creamy texture, Illamasqua Lipstick in Pristine, which has a matte finish (so topping this off with clear gloss will keep it looking more chic than freak), and MAC Glimmerglass in Blackware, which is a sheer, ultra creamy formula, and a great alternative to the price tag of the YSL counterpart.
Other great products that fall in line with the trend and are available all year round are Maybelline Great Lash mascara in 'Blackest Black', Sally Hansen Nail Polish in 'Pat On The Black' and Make Up For Ever Aqua Creamliner in 'Matte Black 1' which is waterproof and gives a defined, hard edge.
One major rule of thumb with this trend:
Pick one feature to dare, and for the rest, go bare! Keeping the rest of the face as matte as possible, highlighting the tops of cheekbones, and a healthy dusting of blush are key to pull the look off. Without a natural looking, rosy glow, you'll just look washed out and in need of some Vitamin B.
Daring to go this far takes a true style-soul. Would you be seen outside of the house with black lipgloss? What about the thicker than Amy Winehouse liner? Think this trend will fade out as quickly as it's crept up? What's your take?
