Come next week, all eyes are going to be on my fair city as the 2009 Toronto International Film Festival rolls into town.
Red carpets are going to be flying in front of clubs and theatres for nine full days of star studded action, and we'll be graced with the presence of some of the world's most talented and interesting personalities.
But who cares about the darned talent - I can't wait to see what the movie stars! Glamour, glamour, glamour!
It's so rare that we get a chance to see the "beautiful" people traipsing through the same streets we call home, that I am planning on going to as many hot spots in town for some people watching. No, let me re-phrase that - for some star stalking! Celebs can be a great source for upcoming trends and are often completely full-faced in makeup when they just head out to grab a coffee at TIFF that it would be a shame to miss one.
Two of the confirmed stars in attendance this year are Zooey Deschanel and Jennifer Hudson, and I must admit, based on their looks from last year's festival, I am uber-excited to see what they pull out this time around.
Both of their red carpet looks from last year were great statements for what Hollywood glamour has become and are easily achievable for the everyday girl.
Zooey Deschanel of the recent release "500 Days of Summer" has fast become an iconic style star with the hipster crowd, and she does so very well.
Casual and carefree yet never schleppy and always adorable, Zooey has fantastic, huge baby blues, raven toned hair and often sports the uber cute shaggy fringe.
If you are looking to play up your big blue peepers like Zooey, the look is a makeup-challenged girls dream!
Using dark grey and charcoal liner, around the entire eye and smudge like crazy. The messier this look is, the sexier it comes across.
A quick sweep of a light pink blush across the apples of the cheeks is best as it keeps the look youthful and fresh. For lips, the joy of this look is that you have the choice of a dramatic, fully lined deep red lip for full impact or you can opt for a super neutral, glossy lip to really let the eyes stand out.
Either lip colour choice, this is instant red carpet glamour.
Jennifer Hudson showed up to her "The Secret Life of Bees" premiere last year looking polished, very sophisticated and I must say, flawless.
The crux of the look - concentrate on perfecting the skin. Makeup artist tip here - we often use 2-3 colours of foundation on different areas of the face. This ensures you get a multi-dimensional look that can, more naturally, highlight specific areas of the face, like cheek bones, the nose and the forehead.
To complete the look without taking away from the appearance of perfect-skin is to keep things simple. Refined, filled in brows with a soft, toned down blush, and eye-shadows that are subtle and have just a hint of shimmer ensure a classic, elegant look.
I suppose it didn't hurt that Jennifer was donning a gold Lanvin dress, which, against her perfected skin, was a total winner.
I can't wait to see what (and who) I see this year.
The anticipation is going to kill me!
