Bonus - these saturated tones work on almost everyone! Two great reasons for having these colours as the 'it' shades for this season: 1) they are instant face brighteners and skin tone enhancers. A little goes a long way. And 2) these are fantastic mood enhancers! Not only for you, but for the people around you, too.
I've listed out some key colours and some skintone guidelines to help with your selection this summer:
Cobalt blue:
Whether or you are a bleach blonde or a raven haired girl, with a beige skin tone, this beautiful tone looks best in this colour.
Emerald green:
Golden girls rejoice, as this shade looks best with a very warm, golden toned skin.
Coral pink:
The color coral usually looks good with all skin tones, but girls with very deep, dark, rich skin pull this off best.
Royal purple:
Similar to the cobalt, this colour works well with beige and yellow toned skin. Brunettes tend to look awesome
Tangerine orange:
Anyone with a super bronze tan will benefit from a little fresh orange thrown on for good measure this summer.
You best bets for colour placement?
Keep the jewel toned blues, greens and purples to your eyes using strongly pigmented shadows and liners.
If you want a slightly toned down look, try a coloured mascara in one of these shades instead.
The corals and tangerines can be incorporated in not only eyeshadows, but on your cheeks and lips, too. Coral is hot hot hot this summer for the cheeks, and a tangerine lip stain is the perfect compliment for a fresh faced look to hit the Sunday brunch patios with.
Bonus for all of these deep, bright hues - they are all big when it comes to nail polish. The deeper, dark shades are making appearances on hands, while you are spotting less of the French pedicure and more bright pink and orange tones on the toes.
What about those hot summer nights when you want to smoke it up a bit and these bright, cheery colours just won't cut it? Black is harsh, grey is more suited for fall, and, really, who doesn't want a dash of smoldering colour as part of their evening look?
Navy blue has been cast into the shadows for far too long as the professionally stuffy, practical, older sibling of the colour world, and it is making its mark as the new black when it comes to makeup.
Use navy blue for a sexy, summery alternative to the black smoky eye. It's a great option for brown eyed girls, as navy is very complimentary to this particular eye colour.
And this colour, too, should not be confined to the face. Dark blue and navy nail polish are huge this season. Try one from Opi, MAC and Revlon, as they are all carrying shade of deep blue.
Moving into the next few months of summer, embrace the colour selection infront of you and I bet you'll find your mood perking up, too!
