Summer 2008 makeup trends

If you caught a glimpse of summer 2008 colours, you've already noticed that mega-bright ones are all the rage.

When I say bright, I mean bright. I cannot recall a season where stores have featured bright tropical colours for clothing, shoes and accessories and pairing them with equally vivid makeup colours.

Two eyeshadow colours that really stand out this summer are yellow and green. If you've not yet started playing with these two shades, you want to get started right now.

There are many ways to use these colours?you can use them as a way of making your eyes pop or you can simply use them as part of a mélange of other shades. I think that Paul Venoit, Cover Girl Makeup Pro Expert and co-host of Look-A-Like and Canada's Next Top Model summed up this season well: "This is the season to take a risk with a bold eye! Ladies, I know you have it in you!"

Some of the most popular shades of green for the season are the following:

• MAC Cosmetics' Gulf Stream (from the Cool Heat collection) which is a sea foam green
• MAC Cosmetics' Warm Chill (from the Cool Heat collection) which is a soft green
• Giorgio Armani's 'Maestro' which is a light bright green
• Urban Decay's loose pigments in 'Graffiti', which is an almost hunter green shadow
• Estee Lauder's 'Sea Grass' which is another sea foam shade
• Clarins' 'Jungle Green' which is a more intensive green, but not as deep as the Urban Decay
• Shiseido's 'Clover Dew' which is sea foam green
• Cover Girl: you'll find a soft green and a green apple-like shade in their Tropical Fusion #205 collection and you'll also want to check the new palette redesigned by über British makeup artist Pat McGrath by the name of Firecracker #100.

When it comes to yellow eyeshadow, it seems that Cover Girl is the go-to makeup line for this vibrant shade.

You'll find yellow shades in their Blazing Blues #117 (a bright banana shade) and Dazzling Metallics #119 (a golden yellow shade) palettes.

Cover Girl Makeup Pro Expert Paul Venoit explains that the best way to use yellow for the summer is to apply it around the eye (on your lid and under your eye) and then you apply two coats of mascara and you'll end up with instant drama!
