Why is everyone talking about mineral makeup?

Mineral makeup was discovered in the late 1970s but never made it to market because cosmetic companies didn't think people were ready for such a natural and radical approach to skin coverage.

However in the past five years, it has taken a life of its own, and many new cosmetic companies have pioneered the technology in choosing to bypass conventional foundation. And now big brands are jumping on the trend as well.

The reasons for it's growing popularity are because it offers light, flawless coverage to women who don't like to wear foundation or don't need it every day; and it's an all-natural alternative. Another great advantage that is can act as an all-in-one foundation, concealer, powder, and sunscreen!

Mineral makeup is made of natural mineral pigments and doesn't contain a lot of the harmful ingredients that are in traditional foundations, such as talc, dyes and preservatives. In general, mineral makeup consists of minerals, titanium dioxide, zinc oxide, and iron oxide. Titanium and zinc are natural anti-inflammatories, which calm and soothe the skin. Titanium dioxide is a natural sunscreen and carries an SPF of 15 to 20. Iron oxide mixed with pure pigment offers many skincare benefits. And the minerals, being inert, will inhibit bacteria growth unlike standard makeup. If you tend to break out a lot when you wear a regular foundation, mineral makeup might be the answer.

Before you think this is for everyone, many women I spoke with who've tried mineral makeup seem to fall in two categories: those who like it and those who really, really, really didn't. Those who didn't either struggled to find the right shade for their skin tone or felt the coverage wasn't enough to hide their skin's imperfections.

I won't even attempt to recommend brands because it's about finding the right shade for your complexion so you might have to test drive a few before finding the right one for you. But with so many companies both big and small selling mineral makeup, there is no shortage of choice at different price points.

I think that makeup combination of organic minerals should be allowed and put on the label of cosmetics. Thanks, kt
