That was the exact question I had when I first heard of e.l.f. (eyes, lips, face) cosmetics.
e.l.f. cosmetics launched in 2004 by New York-based company JA Cosmetics. These bargain-basement prices have been creating a lot of commotion in the cosmetics industry. These well-priced cosmetics have also caught the attention of a lot of major magazines and a number of consumers looking for some relief in their beauty budget. Heck, Oprah, who can afford pretty much anything she wants, has even talked about the product line.
So many times you hear of these amazing deals, just to find out that they are not available in Canada. Well, e.l.f. cosmetics ship to Canada from their website.
So what do you get for $1?
You know I had to find out ... and let me tell you ... I was very impressed.
Here's what I got:
* Brightening Eye Color shadow kit: This eye shadow kit contains four different colours. The palette I got is called Butternut and it's a combination of bronze, shimmery brown, peach and a vanilla colour I use as a base.
* Hypershine Gloss: ?Flirt' is a shade of raspberry that is very soft. Since I have allergies to certain smells, I wasn't able to keep the product on for too long because it was too fruity-smelling for my liking. That said, the colour looked great and if you aren't sensitive to certain scents, you should be fine. You'll find that the lip gloss comes in a container that's very similar to Stila's Lip Glaze lip glosses.
* Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner: You'll only get 5ml of eyeliners, but other than the size, which is smaller than other brands, you are still getting a liquid eyeliner that will only cost you $1. I got Ash, which is a blue-grey colour that is very flattering.
* Eye Makeup Remover Pads: You get 18 pads that are frangrance-free. These are wet pads to easily remove your eye makeup.
* Shine Eraser: You get 50 blotting sheets for $1! I'll tell you that I usually pay a whole lot more for my blotting paper. This is an amazing deal.
* Eye Shadow Brush: e.l.f. cosmetics brushes are designed and tested by professional makeup artist Scott-Vincent Borra.
The total for these six items was six US dollars. I dare you to find any makeup at those prices. I can tell you that once I applied it all and stepped back to look at myself, I thought I looked amazing and no one could ever tell how much it cost.
The best part about e.l.f. cosmetics, is that you can afford to have fun with your makeup. That doesn't mean that I'll stop wearing my Bobbi Brown, Yves Saint Laurent or Laura Mercier makeup, but it does mean that if I'm looking for something that's a little trendier, I might not have to dish out $26 for a fashionable eye shadow colour when I can get it for $1.
Don't think that the colours are only suitable for teens or young adults. They have many shades what will suit you at almost any age.
