Which trends made the hot list for spring?
We love it when the hottest trends of the year give us the freedom of choice. This year, from neutrals to pale pastels to bright and vibrant hues, fashionistas have a multitude of choices. Marion Treger, Product Development Manager for Addition Elle, says there is lots to pick from this year and most of this spring's trends are perfect for plus-size shapes.
"This summer, there is a look that is coming back that is softer and looser. It's very flattering for a plus-size figure because it isn't tight-fitting," Marion explains. Drapey silhouettes ruled the runways this year. They do a fab job of highlighting style and providing adequate coverage at the same time. The Grecian goddess, bohemian and safari looks are on trend for spring 2009 and these work well for plus sizes. "They're still very feminine and they will flatter many different shapes," Marion says. Tribal jewellery, animal-print tees and oversized boyfriend blazers also key pieces for spring and a must-have in any trendista's wardrobe.
The ultimate daytime look for the plus-size fashionista
Marion suggests a few different ideas for a fab daytime look that is totally on trend this spring. According to Marion, tunics and kimono-sleeve tops would look great with slim pants. Another option is peasant blouses, which are loose and comfortable and look great with a long boyfriend blazer. The length of the blazer will help conceal your hips so if you're fuller around the waist and hip line, this is the perfect look for you. Look for pin-tuck and layering details and definitely get your hands on a fooler top, which is a shirt and sweater that looks like two tops but is really just one. The shirt-and-sweater combo is definitely in this spring and because it looks like layering without actually layering, it's breathable and doesn't add thickness to your frame.
When it comes to accessories, be thankful that the tribal look is in. Tribal jewellery is thick and chunky and suits plus sizes best. The thickness of a cuff bracelet balances the body better than a thin bracelet would. And of course, don't forget to invest in a pair of long earrings. This spring, it's all about the ears and long accents are ideal for plus-size shapes. Anything that draws the eyes up and down is perfect for elongating the figure and giving the illusion of a thinner, more proportional shape.
