  • Why do black girls/woman wear weaves and wigs all the time, like it's the thing to do?

    Other - Beauty & Style - 11 hours ago

    Additional Details

Come on now, really? (yes, I know other women wear weaves as well.) I think that it is okay to wear a weave or a wig on SPECIAL OCCASIONS to add a little thickness or length, but everyday? I especially hate when people wear it down to the middle of their back, or dye it blond!!! (????) The only black people that has hair to the middle of their back, are African's. It is so tacky, they think that it looks cute, but in reality, it looks like a bad ass rug or a dead animal sitting on top of their head. I am mixed (Black and Panamanian, and their hair is thick and nappy), and yes, I have had a hard time getting my hair to grow, and the only time I ever wore a weave was this past summer when I got extensions (braids), and I WILL NEVER DO IT AGAIN!! Just because I am mixed doesn't necessarily mean that I have "good hair". Spend the extra money and go to the shop and you will be amazed at how much your hair will grow. My hair has been the same length since I was 15, but now it is growing because I go to the shop. Stop wearing so much damn weaves, fake lashes, nails, and so much damn make-up, it's not cute, it really isn't!!! My black is beautiful! YOU MAY THINK IT'S CUTE OR SEXY, BUT REST ASSURE....... IT ISN'T EVEN FLATTERING!!! So, my questions is..... why do you feel the need to wear a weave? Actually, I think that it is a front. You look like a completely different person with hair that is not yours. It's kind of gross. And no a woman did not "steal" my man, I have been with my husband for 12 years. I really want to know why woman wear fake hair, why not just let it grow? I guess I will be fair, the only weaves that looks half way presentable are real hair.... I guess.

Glamour features Michelle Obama as cover model

Glamour features Michelle Obama as cover model

NEW YORK - U.S. first lady Michelle Obama is fashion's star, but that's not why she's one of Glamour's December cover models.

Mrs. Obama's work in mentoring earned her the spot, which will be rotated with four other covers. She'll receive a special recognition in the annual Women of the Year issue that goes on newsstands Nov. 10.

In an interview with new Glamour columnist and CBS anchor Katie Couric, Mrs. Obama said being a role model is one of the most potentially powerful things she can do at the White House.

"I see how little bits of exposure and big bits of exposure really change my girls significantly, and I want that for more girls around the country and the world," she said.

When it comes to her relationship with President Barack Obama, he helps her feel "whole," she said. "Cute's good. But cute only lasts for so long, and then it's, 'Who are you as a person?' Don't look at the bankbook or the title," she said. "Look at the heart. Look at the soul."

Mrs. Obama does know people are always looking at her, though, especially her fashion choices. "I can't be surprised that people are interested. But I've tried to be at peace with the choices that I make first, and then be open to everyone else's reflection," she said.

On the Glamour cover she's in her own drop-waist, red cocktail dress with a modified ballskirt and a chunky, bow-inspired necklace. The outfit was from her own closet, and no designer will be credited in the magazine.

I see a lot of self-righteous indignation that we should give more attention to poverty. However, this is not a forum to discuss poverty. There is no contradiction between admiring good fashion and caring for those in need. For those who believe that life is beautiful, fashion is one form of aesthetics.

Give me a break people- Almost everyday people keep talking about the woman' style. I am sure she wants to say the same GIVE ME A BREAK! I wear my clothes to cover my body, can people stop watching every single piece of material that I put on. I agree with one of the commenters who said there are other issues in this world right now that are more important than what Mrs Obama is wearing. Can we stop wasting our time on futility.

I think Michelle Obama is a great person, and a great lady! She is down to earth because she*s a capricorn, an earth sign...thus she knows what she wants. After we feed the hungry what*s next? Is ther a plan to make them lead a better life, or we have to feed them untill the end of time? I want to know what*s after we feed the hungry???

I am so happy that she is my first lady. She makes me proud to be a woman showing style, intelligence, and independence. That's is what an American woman is all about. I hope all our children are learning from her.
