One woman's old lipstick is another's prized possession. Some of us vigilantly hoard our cosmetcis, hoping that one day they will reveal a beauty miracle. But bulging bags of unused lipsticks and eyeshadows can often just complicate matters. Regularly weeding your makeup stash is a great way to keep things simple and remain current with your routine. Our own makeup pro, Simone Otis, shows you how.
PURGE
To start, survey your gear and toss out anything expired. If it smells funny, has changed colour or has separated, it's time to trash it. If you still haven't figured out how to wear that trendy colour you bought two years ago, you never will. Throw it out, then enjoy the shopping trip you'll take to replenish your kit.
You're only as good as the tools you use, so shop smart. Buy quality essentials and leave the pink glitter to the under-16 set. Spend the big bucks on things you'll use daily, like concealer, fine-milled face powder and makeup brushes. If you can't get that fuchsia lip colour out of your mind, experiment with a drugstore brand. You can also find great, affordable mascaras at the drugstore.

- Basic black mascara or brown for a softer look.
- Two shades of blush. One that mimics the colour of your cheeks after a run, and a brighter, pinker shade for a pop of colour.
